How much does the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle cost?

Prices are up 1.64% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 342 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle earns a 4.71/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owner feedback points to the Beetle’s fun driving experience, stylish design, and functionality as recurring positives. The overview also frames it as a style-first compact with a strong nostalgic identity, which fits the car’s appeal if you want personality and a distinctive look more than maximum practicality. On the market side, 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle reliable?

Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary repeatedly points to a fun driving experience, stylish design, and functionality, while also describing the car in a way that suggests owners feel good about living with it over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Beetle’s updated engine brings added economy for its final lap, which supports the idea of a car that should be easy to count on for everyday use. The cost-effectiveness notes add that every VW gets an extended 6-year warranty for 2018, which is a useful ownership perk.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Beetle’s charm and more about making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volkswagen Beetle?

At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because this is a small car with a personality-first mission, condition matters a lot: make sure the cabin, electronics, and trim pieces all work as expected, and pay attention to any signs that the car has been used hard or repaired poorly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim gives you LED running lights, heated mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the Style & Comfort Package adds keyless ignition and entry, auto headlights and wipers, heated front seats, a larger touchscreen, HD and satellite radio, and smartphone integration. The SE adds a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and connected services, while the Coast edition layers on the Style & Comfort content plus special upholstery, a surfboard-style dash pad, and unique paint. The Dune adds a special look, extra ground clearance, a wider stance, and unique sport seats, but it also deletes some equipment that appears on the SE Premium setup.
• Powertrain: The updated 2.0-liter turbocharged engine makes 174 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, and the engine cycle is tuned to improve economy. The performance notes say the car can reach 29 mpg combined, with an added 2 mpg in city driving compared with the previous setup.
• Safety package: The SE’s blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is a meaningful upgrade, and the Premium Package adds parking sensors, bi-xenon headlights, LED taillights, and navigation. The Dune deletes blind-spot monitoring, so that’s a trim-level gap to watch for if safety tech matters to you.
• Infotainment: The base setup uses a 5-inch touchscreen, while the Style & Comfort Package upgrades to a 6.3-inch touchscreen with HD and satellite radio plus Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Premium Package adds navigation to the larger screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The updated engine is described as adding 2 mpg in city driving, and the Beetle is said to return 29 mpg combined.

Which 2018 Volkswagen Beetle trim should I buy?

The 2018 Volkswagen Beetle is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, Coast, Dune.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value starting point, with LED running lights, heated mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. If you want the Beetle’s core personality at the lowest entry point, this is the trim to start with, though the Style & Comfort Package is the upgrade that makes it feel much more complete.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the equipment that makes daily life easier: a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and connected services. If you want the most balanced mix of comfort, convenience, and safety tech, this is the one to target.
• Coast: This is the style pick, with the S plus Style & Comfort content, special houndstooth cloth upholstery, a surfboard-style dash pad, and unique Deep Sea Teal paint. It makes the most sense if you want the Beetle’s personality to be the main event.
• Dune: This is the most distinctive-looking trim, with special paint and graphics, a larger rear spoiler, 18-inch wheels, extra ground clearance, and a wider stance. It also includes SE Premium content, but it deletes blind-spot monitoring and the top touchscreen with navigation, so you should buy it for the look and stance rather than for maximum equipment.

The safety-package trim note to keep in mind is that the SE includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while the Dune deletes that feature.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volkswagen Beetle?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly when you find the right car.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 342 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.64% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 61.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,783, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?

The current average of $19,981 sits slightly above last year's $19,659.

That upward move suggests the Beetle is holding buyer interest reasonably well for a niche, style-driven model. Because the year also has a defined low and high price band, sellers can use condition and equipment to justify stronger asking prices when the car is clean and well-optioned. The special-edition angle and final-year significance may also help support demand among shoppers who want a distinctive used car rather than a mainstream commuter.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle safe?

The 2018 Volkswagen Beetle earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Beetle’s safety tech includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert on the SE, while the Premium Package adds parking sensors, bi-xenon headlights, LED taillights, and navigation. One caveat is that the Dune deletes blind-spot monitoring, so safety equipment can vary by trim. The convertible also does not have current test results specifically available.

Should I buy a 2018 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.64% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert or safety highlight specific to this year from the summary: Volkswagen gave the Beetle a last notable update with a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and a special Coast edition.

The bottom line: If you want the Beetle’s final-year character, updated engine, and special-edition appeal, the 2018 is the one to focus on. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still find value here, but you should be selective about condition and equipment so you don’t overpay for a car that’s missing the features you want.
