How much does the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle cost?

Prices are up 2.00% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 371 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the convertible version, the fun driving experience, and the Beetle’s stylish design and functionality. That lines up well with the Beetle’s retro character and its role as a style-first compact, especially if you want something with personality rather than a purely practical commuter.

With 28.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels fun, stylish, and functional, and it also highlights the convertible appeal that many buyers seem to enjoy. The expert notes also emphasize the Beetle’s smooth, on-demand power and its ability to deliver easy passing power on the highway, which supports the sense that it’s a car you can live with day to day.

Volkswagen also says every 2018 model gets an extended 6-year warranty, which is a useful ownership perk to keep in mind when you’re shopping used.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the car has been cared for well, since a small, personality-driven model like this can be more sensitive to neglected maintenance and wear.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volkswagen Beetle?

At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because this car leans heavily on style and special-edition appeal, condition matters a lot: a clean, well-kept example will usually feel much more satisfying than one with cosmetic or accident-related issues.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim gives you the basics, including LED running lights, heated mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 5-inch touchscreen, a reversing camera, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Style & Comfort Package adds keyless ignition and entry, auto headlights and wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, heated front seats with leatherette, a larger 6.3-inch touchscreen, HD and satellite radio, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SE adds a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and VW Car-Net Security and Service. The Coast edition layers on the Style & Comfort Package content plus a sunroof, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, special houndstooth cloth upholstery, a dash pad designed to look like a surfboard, and a unique Deep Sea Teal paint option. The Dune adds a special paint job and graphics, a larger rear spoiler, 18-inch wheels, extra ground clearance, a wider stance, unique sport seats and leather, and the content from an SE Beetle with the Premium package, but it deletes the top touchscreen and blind-spot monitoring. The Coast is the best-value trim if you want the Beetle’s personality without pushing too far up the price ladder.

• Powertrain: The new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine makes 174 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, and Volkswagen says the revised combustion cycle helps improve economy. The expert notes say the engine delivers smooth, on-demand power around the city and plenty of passing power for the highway, while also helping the Beetle hit a 29 mpg combined rating in real-world use.

• Safety package: The SE’s blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and VW Car-Net Security and Service are the key driver-assistance additions. The Coast also includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while the Dune deletes it. That makes the SE and Coast stronger picks if safety tech matters to you.

• Infotainment: The base setup uses a 5-inch touchscreen, while the Style & Comfort Package upgrades you to a 6.3-inch touchscreen with HD and satellite radio plus Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Premium Package adds navigation to the upgraded 6.3-inch screen, along with parking sensors, bi-xenon headlights, LED taillights, and a Fender stereo.

• Fuel efficiency: The new engine adds 2 mpg in city driving, and the expert says the Beetle can achieve a 29 mpg combined rating. That makes the updated 2.0-liter a meaningful improvement if you care about everyday running costs.

Which 2018 Volkswagen Beetle trim should I buy?

The 2018 Volkswagen Beetle is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, Coast, and Dune.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you LED running lights, heated mirrors, a reversing camera, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It makes sense if you want the Beetle’s core personality at the lowest price and plan to add the Style & Comfort Package for the best value.

• SE: This trim adds the most useful everyday upgrades, including a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and VW Car-Net Security and Service. It’s the better choice if you want a more complete Beetle without jumping into the special editions.

• Coast: This is the standout value pick if you want a more distinctive Beetle. It bundles the Style & Comfort Package content with a sunroof, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, special houndstooth cloth upholstery, a surfboard-style dash pad, and unique Deep Sea Teal paint.

• Dune: This is the most style-forward version, with special paint and graphics, a larger rear spoiler, 18-inch wheels, extra ground clearance, a wider stance, and unique sport seats and leather. It’s the one to choose if you want the most visual drama, but it also deletes blind-spot monitoring and the top touchscreen with navigation.

The Coast is the best-value trim for most shoppers, while the SE is the safer all-around choice if you want the strongest mix of comfort and driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volkswagen Beetle?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 371 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.00% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 59.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,769, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?

The current average of $19,905 sits slightly above last year's $19,514.

That upward move suggests the Beetle is holding value reasonably well for a niche model, especially one with strong personality and a clear identity. If you buy carefully and keep the car in good condition, you should have a decent chance of appealing to future shoppers who want something distinctive rather than generic.

The limited inventory and the model’s special-edition appeal can also help support demand when it’s time to sell. Cars with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle safe?

The 2018 Volkswagen Beetle earns an overall 5-star rating from NHTSA, though it also received four-star ratings in front and front passenger tests and in rollover testing.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Beetle’s safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert on the SE and Coast, plus VW Car-Net Security and Service on the SE. The Dune deletes blind-spot monitoring, so that’s an important trim-level gap to watch for if safety tech matters to you.

Should I buy a 2018 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Prices are up 2.00% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Volkswagen gave the Beetle one last notable update for its final year, including a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and a special Coast edition.

The bottom line: The 2018 is the right pick if you want the Beetle’s final-year significance, updated powertrain, and special-edition character in one package. If you’re more price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
