How much does the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle cost?

Prices are up 1.08% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 362 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.7/5 user-rated car with an expert rating of 7.8/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the convertible version, the fun driving experience, and the Beetle’s stylish design and functionality. That lines up well with the model’s use case as a style-first compact with strong nostalgic appeal and a special final-year update.

With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car people enjoy living with over time, especially for its fun driving character and the way it blends style with everyday functionality. The expert review also emphasizes that the Beetle’s updated engine brings a bit more economy for its final lap, which supports the idea of a car that can be pleasant to own rather than merely interesting to look at.

Volkswagen also notes an extended 6-year warranty for 2018, which adds some ownership reassurance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the car’s charm and more about making sure the specific example has been cared for well.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volkswagen Beetle?

At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of bodywork, trim, and any signs of prior repair quality. Because this car leans heavily on personality and special-edition appeal, condition matters a lot: a clean, well-kept example will usually feel much more satisfying than one with cosmetic or accident-related issues.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim comes with LED running lights, heated mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, an 8-speaker stereo, a 5-inch touchscreen, a reversing camera, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Style & Comfort Package adds larger 17-inch wheels, body-color exterior trim, keyless ignition and entry, auto headlights and wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, heated front seats with leatherette, a larger 6.3-inch touchscreen, HD and satellite radio, and App-Connect with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
• Powertrain: The new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine makes 174 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, and Volkswagen says the revised combustion cycle helps improve city fuel economy. The automatic transmission is the only gearbox mentioned.
• Safety package: The SE adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and the Coast edition includes that same system. The Dune deletes blind-spot monitoring, so trim choice affects safety equipment.
• Infotainment: The base setup uses a 5-inch touchscreen, while the Style & Comfort Package upgrades you to a 6.3-inch touchscreen with HD and satellite radio plus Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SE Premium package adds navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The updated engine adds 2 mpg in city driving, and the review notes a 29 mpg combined rating during testing.

Which 2018 Volkswagen Beetle trim should I buy?

The 2018 Volkswagen Beetle is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, Coast, and Dune.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you LED running lights, heated mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, and a touchscreen setup that makes the car feel well equipped for the money. If you want the lowest starting point and plan to add the Style & Comfort Package, this is the value play.
• SE: This trim adds a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and VW Car-Net Security and Service. It’s the best fit if you want a more complete daily driver without jumping into the special editions.
• Coast: This is the standout recommendation if you want the Beetle’s personality at a sensible price. It bundles the S with the Style & Comfort Package, adds a sunroof and blind-spot monitoring, and layers on the special houndstooth cloth upholstery, surfboard-style dash pad, and unique Deep Sea Teal paint.
• Dune: This is the most distinctive-looking trim, with special paint and graphics, a larger rear spoiler, 18-inch wheels, extra ground clearance, and a wider stance. It’s the choice for you if style and rarity matter most, but it gives up blind-spot monitoring and the top touchscreen with navigation.

For safety-minded shoppers, note that blind-spot monitoring is not standard across the lineup, and the Dune specifically deletes it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volkswagen Beetle?

The market looks moderate, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 362 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.08% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 57.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,769, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?

The current average of $19,643 sits slightly above last year's $19,434.

That upward move suggests the Beetle has held value reasonably well for a niche, style-driven compact. If you buy carefully and keep the car in clean condition, you’re more likely to preserve appeal when it’s time to sell.

The Beetle’s special final-year status and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand from shoppers who want something distinctive rather than purely practical. That kind of buyer interest can make resale more stable than you might expect for a discontinued model.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle safe?

The Beetle earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety equipment highlighted here includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert on the SE and Coast, while the Dune deletes that feature. The expert review also notes that the convertible does not have current test results available specifically for that body style, so you should pay close attention to the exact version you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.08% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The year stands out for its farewell-model status, updated 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, and special Coast edition.

The bottom line: If you want the Beetle with the most distinctive final-year identity, the 2018 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still find value here, but you should focus on clean-history examples and be selective about trim and equipment.
