CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Tesla Model S

Summary
With 324 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,636, 32.1% of 2018 Tesla Model S listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Tesla Model S 4.48 / 5 stars.
77.5% of 2018 Tesla Model S listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Tesla Model S stands out as one of the defining electric cars of its era because it combines long-range capability, advanced technology, and sports car-style acceleration in a luxury sedan package. By 2018, the Model S had been simplified to standard all-wheel drive and two battery pack options, 75- and 100-kWh, and Tesla also started to limit its free supercharging to 400 kWh per year. That same year brought quiet tech upgrades with faster screen processing and better navigation, which helped keep the car feeling current despite its age.
What makes the 2018 Model S especially appealing is how much of its identity still centers on innovation. The car’s minimalist cabin, large touchscreen interface, and software-driven approach were part of what made the Model S feel futuristic from the start, and the 2018 model still benefits from that basic formula. Buyers also get the advantages of Tesla’s over-the-air updates, which kept the car competitive over time, along with the strong performance and range that helped establish the Model S as a benchmark in the EV market.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Model S is not praised for build quality, and it lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Even so, for shoppers who want a used electric sedan with standout acceleration, advanced features, and a spacious, tech-forward feel, the 2018 Tesla Model S remains a distinctive choice.

Excited about this car. It feels so futuristic and super luxurious. Hard to know what you’re missing if you’ve never experienced it firsthand… but I know now. It’s smooth, calm, and simple. The car is extremely powerful and so utilitarian. Very nice looking and intuitive too. Can’t say enough good things about it. People may say bad stuff about Tesla, but that’s probably all coming from the outside and not people who actually own these cars.

This is a fantastic car, once you drive a Tesla Model S, you dont want to drive anything else. It is powerful, comfortable and beautiful. You can trust this car even with a high mileage. You have to test drive to make sure there no issue with suspension but the rest is nothing to worry about. Its a reliable car very impressive

Acceleration in the performance version is something all sports car enthusiasts will appreciate and love, build quality unfortunately is not so spectacular. If not for the insane speed, I would have given it 2 of 5 stars.

How much does the 2018 Tesla Model S cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,690 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,580 |
| Year-Round High | $23,995 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,881 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −0.80% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 322 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2018 Tesla Model S a good car?
Generally — the 4.48/5 user rating suggests you can feel confident shopping this model year. Drivers consistently praise its exceptional performance, impressive acceleration, and innovative features, and many also like the luxurious feel and spacious cabin compared with the Model 3. If you want a used electric sedan with standout acceleration, advanced technology, and a tech-forward feel, the 2018 Model S fits that use case well. With 34.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Tesla Model S reliable?
Owners rate it 4.48/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary points to a car that many owners find reliable, dependable, and worth counting on for the long haul, especially when it comes to performance and everyday usability. At the same time, some buyers mention concerns around build quality and customer support, so used-car ownership risk is more about condition and maintenance history than the basic appeal of the car itself. For you, that means a careful pre-purchase check matters if you want to reduce long-term ownership surprises.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Tesla Model S?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with the history report and confirm there are no accident records, title issues, or gaps that raise questions about how the car was used. Then prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, interior, and technology features, since build quality and condition can vary from one used example to another. Focus on overall wear, software behavior, and whether the car feels well cared for, because those details matter more than mileage alone.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Tesla Model S?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 322 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 77.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,580, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $23,690 sits slightly below last year's $23,881.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable, which is helpful if you plan to resell later. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate future value, especially when demand stays consistent for a well-known EV. Strong owner satisfaction also helps support buyer interest over time.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.48/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.48/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a used Model S with a stable price profile, strong owner satisfaction, and enough inventory to shop carefully, the 2018 is a sensible primary choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years for a lower entry point, but the 2018 still offers a balanced mix of value, availability, and buyer confidence.
