How much does the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 3.64% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,906 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Generally — the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns a 4.2/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise its quality, safety features, and smooth driving experience, and they also like the solid feel and advanced safety systems. The Crosstrek’s practical, durable, outdoorsy setup fits buyers who want a compact crossover that feels useful in everyday life and still has real capability. At the same time, some owners say the engine feels underpowered and question its value.

With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as quality-built, safe, smooth to drive, and dependable enough to inspire confidence over time. The feedback also points to a durable, solid feel that fits the Crosstrek’s practical mission, while the repeated praise for its safety systems suggests buyers tend to count on it for daily use. Subaru’s emphasis on practicality, safety, and efficiency reinforces that impression.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some examples may have been driven hard or may show the effects of age and mileage, so condition matters as much as reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, safety equipment, and signs of wear. Because this model is often chosen for practical use, it’s smart to focus on how well the interior, drivetrain, and suspension have held up. If you’re comparing multiple listings, condition should matter more than mileage alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, integrated roof rails, manual seats, power windows, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench, and the 6.5-inch StarLink infotainment system, while the Premium adds fog lights, heated front seats, a windshield-wiper deicer, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seats with orange stitching, auto on/off headlights, and a six-speaker stereo. The Limited adds leather seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch StarLink screen, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder makes 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, and you can get either a 6-speed manual or a CVT with all-weather symmetrical AWD. The manual is standard on Base and Premium, while the CVT is standard on Limited and improves fuel economy.
• Safety package: EyeSight is the named safety suite, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. Standard safety equipment also includes front and side impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH child-seat anchors, and vehicle dynamics control with traction control. Automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are available, and X-Mode and Hill Descent Control are optional on Base and Premium but standard on Limited.
• Infotainment: Base and Premium trims use a 6.5-inch StarLink touchscreen, while Limited gets an 8-inch screen. The system supports Apple CarPlay, and the interface includes shortcut creation plus quick-access buttons for Home, Radio, Media, and Apps.
• Fuel efficiency: With the manual transmission, the Crosstrek returns 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the CVT improves that to 29 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.

Which 2018 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 3 trim levels: Base, Premium, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest way into the Crosstrek, and it gives you the core rugged look, roof rails, and basic StarLink setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and are comfortable with a more stripped-down cabin.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience upgrades that make daily use easier, including heated front seats, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a better stereo. If you want the sweet spot between price and livability, this is the one to focus on.
• Limited: This trim is the most upscale, with leather seats, automatic climate control, the larger 8-inch screen, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel. It suits you best if you want the most features and are willing to pay more for them.

X-Mode and Hill Descent Control are optional on Base and Premium, but standard on Limited, so that trim has the strongest built-in traction and descent-control setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and focused.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,906 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.64% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,472, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $15,784 sits slightly below last year's $16,380.

That softer pricing suggests the Crosstrek has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right number. If you purchase near the lower end of the range and keep the vehicle in good condition, you may be better positioned when it’s time to sell. Demand should also benefit from the model’s practical reputation and broad appeal to used buyers.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns strong expert safety marks and comes with a broad set of standard and available driver-assistance features.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. Standard safety equipment also includes front and side impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH child-seat anchors, and vehicle dynamics control with traction control. Available upgrades include automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking.

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.64% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model is the first full redesign for the Crosstrek, and it emphasizes evolving the formula with more rugged styling, better capability, and a stronger overall sense of durability.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Crosstrek with its rugged personality, strong safety focus, and practical all-weather character, the 2018 is the right target. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and look for a well-kept example near the lower end of the range, especially if you’re willing to trade up or down based on trim and equipment.

How does the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek compare to the 2018 Honda HR-V?

Our experts score the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek 7.3/10 and the 2018 Honda HR-V 6.7/10. The Crosstrek is the stronger pick if you want more capability, a more rugged personality, and a better overall expert score. The HR-V has the edge in starting price and fuel economy, but the Crosstrek offers more standard all-weather confidence and a more distinctive outdoorsy character.
