How much does the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 3.39% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,892 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Generally — the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns 4.2/5 from owners and 7.3/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its quality, safety features, and smooth driving experience, and many highlight the solid feel of the car along with the EyeSight safety tech. The Crosstrek’s practical, high-riding wagon layout and rugged, utility-first character fit well if you want a compact vehicle that emphasizes capability and everyday usefulness. At the same time, some owners say the 2.0-liter engine feels underpowered and question its value.

With 34.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers describing the car as solid and confidence-inspiring over time. The expert review also emphasizes Subaru’s practical, durable approach, with a composed chassis and a powertrain tuned for everyday use rather than drama. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a neglected example may show its age more quickly if it has been driven hard or maintained inconsistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that the car has been used hard on rough roads or in harsh weather. Because this model is valued for practicality and capability, condition matters as much as equipment.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, integrated roof rails, manual seats, power windows, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench, and the 6.5-inch StarLink infotainment system. The Premium adds fog lights, heated front seats, a windshield-wiper deicer, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seats with orange stitching, auto on/off headlights, and a six-speaker stereo. The Limited adds leather seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch StarLink screen, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder makes 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT sending power to all-weather symmetrical all-wheel drive. The manual is standard on Base and Premium, while the CVT is standard on Limited and available on the lower trims.
• Safety package: EyeSight is the named safety suite, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. Automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are also available. EyeSight is optional on Base and Premium and standard on Limited.
• Infotainment: Base and Premium trims use a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while Limited gets an 8-inch screen. The system supports easy menu navigation and smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: With the manual transmission, fuel economy is 23 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined. With the CVT, it improves to 29 city, 33 highway, and 29 combined.

Which 2018 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 3 trim levels: Base, Premium, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the least expensive way into the Crosstrek, and it gives you the core formula: standard all-wheel drive, roof rails, a 6.5-inch StarLink screen, and the rugged look that defines the model. It makes sense if you want the Crosstrek’s capability and utility without paying for comfort extras.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a six-speaker stereo, and other everyday upgrades that make the car feel more complete. If you want the sweet spot between price and livability, this is the one to focus on.
• Limited: This trim is the right pick if you want the most polished Crosstrek, with leather seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch screen, keyless entry with push-button start, and steering-responsive LED headlights. It also gets the CVT and standard X-Mode and Hill Descent Control.

EyeSight is optional on Base and Premium and standard on Limited.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and disciplined.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,892 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.39% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,471, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $15,835 sits slightly below last year's $16,391.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become a little more buyer-friendly, which can help you if you’re shopping now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the Crosstrek’s broad appeal, practical layout, and strong owner satisfaction should help it remain easy to move in the used market. Its reputation for utility and safety gives it staying power with shoppers who want a compact crossover that feels durable and useful.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns strong safety marks from our experts and comes with a broad set of standard safety equipment.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Crosstrek comes standard with front and side impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH child-seat anchors, and vehicle dynamics control with traction control. EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. Automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are also available, with EyeSight optional on Base and Premium and standard on Limited.

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It’s the first full redesign for the Crosstrek, with a more refined take on the model’s practical, rugged formula.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Crosstrek with strong safety, good utility, and a softer used-market price, the 2018 is the right year to target. If you’re mainly chasing the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby older year may cost less, but you’ll give up some of the refinement and redesign benefits that make this one especially appealing.

How does the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek compare to the 2018 Honda HR-V?

Our experts score the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek 7.3/10 and the 2018 Honda HR-V 6.7/10.

The Crosstrek is the stronger pick if you want a more capable-feeling compact crossover with standard all-wheel drive, a tougher design, and a stronger emphasis on safety and utility. The HR-V is the more budget-oriented choice, with a lower starting price and better city and highway fuel economy, but it doesn’t match the Crosstrek’s rugged character or expert score. If you value capability and a more substantial feel, the Crosstrek has the edge; if price and efficiency matter most, the HR-V is worth a look.
