Why it stands out
The 2018 Nissan Kicks stands out as a crossover for shoppers who do not need off-road ability or a sporty driving character, yet still want a vehicle that is genuinely useful. It is positioned as a more practical alternative to the Juke, and Nissan’s approach with the all-new Kicks is to lean into the crossover formula rather than chase athleticism. That makes it appealing to buyers who care more about everyday usefulness than performance.
Its biggest strength is that it includes features aimed at the daily commuter, which helps explain why it feels more useful than the Juke. The Kicks also earns praise for value, spaciousness, comfort, and good gas mileage, and owners commonly appreciate conveniences such as a backup camera and keyless entry. At the same time, it is not the choice for drivers who want all-wheel drive, and some owners note that certain expected interior touches are missing.

I was looking for a vehicle with good gas mileage. The kicks gets great mileage. But I was super surprised the little car is very comfortable for me Im a heavy set guy with bad knees and I was shocked just how comfortable it really is plus all of the safety features are a major bonus I could not be happier with the car and it is quite peppy for a four cylinder vehicle

Great vehicle with a few recommendations. Trunk latch inside, armrest on passenger seat would complete this vehicle. Would expect the SV model to have these features over the S model.

At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, interior condition, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model is often bought for value and commuting, condition matters a lot: a clean, well-kept example is more likely to deliver the ownership experience you want. Pay extra attention to features and trim content so you know whether the car matches the equipment level you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S comes with 16-inch steel wheels with covers, roof rails, a rear window wiper, automatic headlights, cloth seats, a 6-way manual driver’s seat, a 4-way manual front passenger seat, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, Bluetooth connectivity, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The SV adds 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, push-button start, and a partially digital instrument panel, while the SR adds fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a dark satin chrome grille accent, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera.
- Powertrain: It uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 125 horsepower and 115 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard front-wheel drive. It is described as underpowered, but it can feel decent around town and returns good fuel economy.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking is standard on every trim. SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while SR adds a surround-view camera. The base trim misses those extra driver-assistance features.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with a straightforward menu layout and physical buttons. Siri Eyes Free is standard, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are added on SV and SR.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined.
Which 2018 Nissan Kicks trim should I buy?
The 2018 Nissan Kicks is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, SR.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and the core Kicks experience. You still get the 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, automatic emergency braking, and the basic commuter-friendly equipment that defines the model.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the features many buyers will actually notice every day, including push-button start, a partially digital instrument panel, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- SR: Choose this if you want the most content, including fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera. It makes the Kicks feel more complete, but it is the pricier choice.
The safety package is strongest once you move beyond the base trim, since SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 22.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 447 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.34% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,693.87, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Nissan Kicks's resale value?
The current average of $12,172 sits slightly below last year's $13,136.
That price movement suggests the Kicks has softened enough to be attractive to used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market. If you buy well now, you may be starting from a lower cost basis than owners did a year ago. The model’s value-focused reputation and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, but condition and equipment level will matter when it is time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
The Kicks comes standard with front and side airbags, a reversing camera, and automatic emergency braking. It also includes the Easy-Fill Tire Alert system, which helps you set tire pressure without a gauge. SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while SR adds a surround-view camera for easier parking.
The main safety caveat is that the base trim misses some of the extra driver-assistance features found higher up the range, so you should pay attention to trim level if safety tech matters to you.
Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 22.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.34% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 emphasizes commuter-friendly usefulness over athleticism and includes standard automatic emergency braking.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $12,086, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $12,172 average.
- It adds a stronger emphasis on standard advanced safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the better-documented value play, the 2018 is the safer shopping target because it combines a lower market price with strong owner satisfaction and broad availability. If you are focused mainly on shaving a little more off the purchase price, the 2019 is worth a look, but the 2018 remains the more straightforward buy for shoppers who want a proven, practical commuter crossover.
