Why it stands out
The 2018 Nissan Kicks stands out as a crossover for shoppers who do not need off-road ability or a sporty driving character, yet still want a vehicle that is genuinely useful. It is positioned as a more practical alternative to the Juke, and Nissan’s approach with the all-new Kicks is to lean into the crossover formula rather than chase athleticism. That makes it appealing to buyers who care more about everyday usefulness than performance.
Its biggest strength is that it includes features aimed at the daily commuter, which helps explain why it feels more useful than the Juke. The Kicks also earns praise for value, spaciousness, comfort, and good gas mileage, and owners commonly appreciate conveniences such as a backup camera and keyless entry. At the same time, it is not the choice for drivers who want all-wheel drive, and some owners note that certain expected interior touches are missing.

I was looking for a vehicle with good gas mileage. The kicks gets great mileage. But I was super surprised the little car is very comfortable for me Im a heavy set guy with bad knees and I was shocked just how comfortable it really is plus all of the safety features are a major bonus I could not be happier with the car and it is quite peppy for a four cylinder vehicle

Great vehicle with a few recommendations. Trunk latch inside, armrest on passenger seat would complete this vehicle. Would expect the SV model to have these features over the S model.

At 67.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because this model is valued for everyday usefulness, you should also pay attention to interior condition, seat wear, and whether the cabin features still work as expected. A careful test drive should confirm that the car feels comfortable, quiet enough for your needs, and free of warning lights or odd noises.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S comes with 16-inch steel wheels with covers, roof rails, a rear window wiper, automatic headlights, cloth seats, a 6-way manual driver’s seat, a 4-way manual front passenger seat, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, Bluetooth connectivity, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The SV adds 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, push-button start, and a partially digital instrument panel. The SR adds fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a dark satin chrome grille accent, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera.
- Powertrain: It uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 125 horsepower and 115 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive only. It is described as underpowered, but it can feel decent around town and returns strong fuel economy.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes front and side airbags, a reversing camera, Easy-Fill Tire Alert, and automatic emergency braking. SV trim adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while SR adds the surround-view camera.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and Siri Eyes Free. SV and SR add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined.
Which 2018 Nissan Kicks trim should I buy?
The 2018 Nissan Kicks is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, and SR.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you the essentials: a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, automatic headlights, roof rails, a rear window wiper, cloth seats, and automatic emergency braking. If you want the lowest entry price and can live without smartphone integration and extra convenience features, this is the trim to consider first.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 17-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, a partially digital instrument panel, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. It gives you the biggest jump in everyday convenience and safety without moving all the way to the top trim.
- SR: This trim adds the most upscale feel with fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a dark satin chrome grille accent, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera. It makes sense if you want the most features and the easiest parking experience.
The safety package starts with automatic emergency braking on every trim, while SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you focus on the right listings.
- Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 458 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.17% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,668.29, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Nissan Kicks's resale value?
The current average of $12,042 sits slightly below last year's $12,973.
That price movement suggests the Kicks has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and later resell into a market that still values affordable crossovers. The current trend also hints that buyers remain price-sensitive, so a clean, well-equipped example should be easier to move than one with visible wear or a rough history. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance current, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
The Kicks comes standard with front and side airbags, a reversing camera, Easy-Fill Tire Alert, and automatic emergency braking. SV trim adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while SR adds a surround-view camera. That means the core safety package is strong for the class, but you need to move up a trim if you want the extra driver-assistance features.
Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.17% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 emphasizes daily commuting usefulness, value, and practicality over sporty driving or all-wheel-drive capability.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $12,103, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $12,042 average.
- It adds standard advanced safety features and a stronger sense of value.
The bottom line: If you want the better price and are comfortable shopping carefully, the 2018 is the smarter buy. If you are willing to pay a bit more for a newer model year, the 2019 is the cleaner alternative for buyers who want the latest version of the same basic formula.
