What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?

At 70.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you get too far into the process, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the car has any accident history or visible wear. Focus on condition, because this model is meant to be a practical commuter and you want to make sure the basics still feel solid. It’s also worth checking that the features you care about are actually present, since equipment varies by trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S comes with 16-inch steel wheels with covers, roof rails, a rear window wiper, automatic headlights, cloth seats, a 6-way manual driver’s seat, a 4-way manual front passenger seat, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, Bluetooth connectivity, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The SV adds 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, push-button start, and a partially digital instrument panel, while the SR adds fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a dark satin chrome grille accent, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera.
• Powertrain: It uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 125 horsepower and 115 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive only. It’s described as underpowered, but it can feel adequate for city driving and stoplight-to-stoplight use.
• Safety package: Automatic emergency braking is standard on every trim. SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, and SR adds a surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets a 7-inch touchscreen and Siri Eyes Free. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are added on SV and SR.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined. In testing, it returned 33.6 mpg.

Which 2018 Nissan Kicks trim should I buy?

The 2018 Nissan Kicks is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, SR.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and the core commuter basics. You still get the 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, automatic headlights, roof rails, and automatic emergency braking, so it covers the essentials well.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds 17-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, a partially digital instrument panel, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. If you want the best mix of convenience, tech, and safety, this is the one to target.
• SR: Choose this if you want the most content, including fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera. It’s the most feature-rich version, but the added equipment is more about comfort and convenience than a major change in capability.

Automatic emergency braking is standard across the lineup, while SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 470 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,668, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Nissan Kicks's resale value?

The current average of $11,799 sits slightly below last year's $12,069.

That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can work in your favor if you’re buying now but may pressure resale if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that this model year is not appreciating, so condition and mileage will matter even more when it’s time to list it. A well-kept example should still attract interest because it remains a value-focused commuter crossover.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks safe?

The 2018 Nissan Kicks earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with front and side airbags, a reversing camera, Easy-Fill Tire Alert, and automatic emergency braking. SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while SR adds a surround-view camera. That gives you a solid standard safety foundation, especially for a budget-friendly crossover.

One thing to keep in mind is that the safety equipment is strongest once you move beyond the base trim, so it’s worth checking exactly which driver-assistance features are included on the car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 Kicks emphasizes daily commuting and practicality over sporty handling or all-wheel drive.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $11,987, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $11,799 average.
• It adds standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the lower-priced option and are focused on everyday commuting, the 2018 is the better value play. If you’re willing to spend a bit more for a newer model year with added standard safety content, the 2019 is the cleaner upgrade path.
