How much does the 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class cost?

Prices are up 1.48% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 354 listings available, which suggests a relatively limited pool of used examples.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class stands out because it is the last version of the original design before the model was completely redesigned for 2019. That long-running shape is part of its appeal: the boxy, military-derived look remained intact, and the truck still carried the rugged character that made the G-Class famous in the first place.

It also combines that old-school personality with serious capability and luxury. The G-Class is described as having incredible off-road ability, military-grade style, and sublime luxury, while the tradeoffs are just as clear: it is insanely expensive to buy and maintain, hard to find, and poor on fuel economy. In other words, you should look at it if you want a distinctive, prestige-heavy SUV with real off-road credibility rather than a practical daily driver.

32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is presented as a long-running, refined version of the original formula, which points to a vehicle that benefited from years of development rather than a fresh redesign. Its appeal comes from that established character: rugged, recognizable, and built around a proven identity.

At the same time, the model’s high purchase price and expensive upkeep mean reliability should be weighed alongside ownership costs. For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is not just whether the truck runs well, but whether you are prepared for premium maintenance and repair expenses over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a full vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body integrity, suspension condition, and signs of expensive wear, since this is a high-cost vehicle where condition matters a lot. Because the G-Class is both rare and costly to maintain, you should favor the cleanest example you can find over the cheapest one.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep discounts across the board.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 354 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.48% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 70.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $80,552, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

The current average of $86,479 sits slightly above last year's $85,221.

That upward move suggests the market has held value reasonably well for this model year. If you buy carefully and keep the truck in strong condition, you may be able to preserve a meaningful share of your purchase price. The limited supply also helps support resale strength, especially for cleaner examples with solid history.

Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.48% year-over-year.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $104,431, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $86,479 average.
• It brings a full redesign with a more modern luxury feel.

The bottom line: If you want the classic G-Class shape and a lower entry price, the 2018 is the better value. If you want the newer redesign and are willing to pay significantly more, the 2019 is the stronger upgrade. For most price-sensitive buyers, the 2018 is the smarter starting point.
