Why it stands out
Mercedes-Benz offers the 2018 E-Class as a midsize luxury car that aims squarely at buyers who want a premium experience. The expert test drive data describes it as “the ultimate midsize luxury car for the ultimate price,” and says that while you pay a lot, the reward is owning one of the finest luxury cars on the face of the planet. That framing makes the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class distinctive right away: it is positioned as a no-compromise luxury choice rather than a value play.
Owner feedback reinforces that appeal, with praise for the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. At the same time, some owners note the possibility of high maintenance costs after the warranty period and minor wear-and-tear concerns. Taken together, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a polished, high-end sedan that delivers the comfort and sophistication many luxury buyers are seeking, while asking them to accept the costs that can come with that level of refinement.

The 2018 Mercedes E300 W213 is a very good value in the used car market. Find one with good maintenance history and not abused. The turbocharged four cylinder engine provides enough power for daily driving, is economical, and the car is very comfortable for long trips.

Sadly I was involved in a single car accident with a rim and tire blown out and caused me to lose control and wreck into a guardrail and total my e350 none repairable but am convinced that the car saved my life that day if I had been in any other car I believe I would have died this car is so reliable safe and great on gas for the size and very beautiful looking car I miss her so much the best car I ever had owned hands down I give it a solid 10+

Great engine and transmission. Great immediate power. Nice ride and drive, feedback from the suspension and steering. Very nice interior and every set up. Except there is moderate rattle noise from the dash which I believe can be fixed by padding the inside and the edges of the dash. Other than that, a perfect daily.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.76/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.00/10. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. The E-Class also fits well if you want a midsize luxury car with a comfort-first ride and a long list of high-end tech. With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.76/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise centered on the smooth ride, luxurious interior, and powerful performance. The expert review also emphasizes how calm, quiet, and composed the car feels on the road, which supports the impression of a well-sorted luxury sedan. Mercedes also notes that the car is built with a strong safety and driver-assistance focus, which adds to confidence in everyday use.
You should still budget carefully for a used luxury car, since maintenance costs can rise once warranty coverage ends.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are comparing cars with similar prices. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and evidence of prior bodywork or wear, since luxury cars can vary a lot in how they were used and maintained. A careful inspection matters even more here because the market includes both clean examples and cars with prior damage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin is loaded with high-end materials, giant high-res screens, bright LED mood lighting in 64 colors, and two-tone leather combinations, while the coupe adds finned air vents, aggressively bolstered sport seats, and a pillarless design. The Luxury Line is mentioned for sedan and wagon models, replacing the large Mercedes emblem with a classic thin-lined grille and standing hood ornament.
- Powertrain: The E300 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, while the E400 uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The 4-cylinder is described as underpowered in this heavier car, and the V6 is the better choice for confident passing.
- Safety package: Mercedes calls its suite Car-to-X Communication, and the car also includes Pre-Safe Sound, side-bolster inflation in a side collision, automatic braking that can detect crossing traffic and people, and adaptive cruise control that can respond to changing speed limits. Many of these features are optional, and several are tied to the expensive Premium 3 package.
- Infotainment: The tech setup includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a built-in web browser, a head-up display, and a configurable instrument panel. The system also supports dynamic traffic rerouting, voice inputs, and a semi-autonomous system that can steer, throttle, and brake the car around turns.
- Fuel efficiency: The E300 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg city and 30 highway, or 21/29 with 4Matic. The E400 coupe is EPA-rated at 20/26, and the E400 4Matic wagon is 19/25. The review also reports 29 mpg in a mostly highway E300 and 23 mpg over 600 miles in the E400.
Which 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E300 sedan, E300 4Matic sedan, E400 coupe, E400 4Matic wagon.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The E300 sedan is the entry point, but the review makes clear that many of the standout safety and semi-autonomous features are locked into the expensive Premium 3 package.
- Sweet-spot trim: The E300 4Matic sedan is the better everyday pick if you want all-weather traction, but you should still expect to pay for the options that make the E-Class feel fully loaded.
- Premium/top trim: The E400 coupe and E400 4Matic wagon bring the stronger 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, which the review calls the best choice, along with the more upscale body styles.
- Off-road trim: Not applicable here.
The safety package note is simple: many of the most desirable driver-assistance features are optional and often bundled into Premium 3.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,408 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.50% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,338.82, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $23,337 sits slightly below last year's $26,076.
That price decline suggests the market has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. It also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. Because the model still carries strong demand from shoppers who want luxury and technology, a clean example should remain easier to move than a neglected one.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.76/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Mercedes equips the E-Class with Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking that can detect crossing traffic and people, adaptive cruise control that can react to changing speed limits, and systems that can help steer and brake the car in an emergency. The review also notes side-bolster inflation in a side collision and braking assistance if the driver does not press hard enough during an impending crash. Many of these features are optional, and several are tied to the Premium 3 package.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.50% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.76/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- You want the year that pairs a strong expert rating with standout technology and safety.
The bottom line: If you want a used E-Class with strong tech, excellent safety, and a market price that has already come down meaningfully, the 2018 is a smart target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained examples rather than chasing the cheapest listing.
