The 2018 Mercedes E300 W213 is a very good value in the used car market. Find one with good maintenance history and not abused. The turbocharged four cylinder engine provides enough power for daily driving, is economical, and the car is very comfortable for long trips.

Great engine and transmission. Great immediate power. Nice ride and drive, feedback from the suspension and steering. Very nice interior and every set up. Except there is moderate rattle noise from the dash which I believe can be fixed by padding the inside and the edges of the dash. Other than that, a perfect daily.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.76/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.00/10. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, and elegant styling. The overview also points to a car that fits buyers who want a premium midsize luxury car with advanced technology and a refined driving experience. With 32.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.76/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable and trouble-free in daily use, with praise centered on the smooth ride, strong performance, and luxurious interior.
The expert review reinforces that sense of calm, composed ownership by describing the car as quiet, stable, and easy to live with over long distances. It also notes that the E-Class is built around a relaxed, confidence-inspiring driving experience.
You should still weigh long-term ownership risk carefully, since some used buyers may face higher maintenance costs after the warranty period.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has advanced safety or convenience equipment. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of wear that could point to expensive post-warranty ownership. If you’re comparing multiple listings, give extra weight to cars with cleaner histories and documented service.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup emphasizes luxury and technology, but some of the most desirable features are tied to higher equipment levels. The review also notes that many safety and semi-autonomous features are bundled into an expensive package, so you should check carefully for feature gaps on lower-spec cars.
- Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, while the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 makes 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder is described as underpowered for the E-Class, while the V6 is the better choice for confident passing and smoother everyday use.
- Safety package: Mercedes includes Car-to-X Communication, automatic braking that can detect crossing traffic and people, and adaptive cruise control that can respond to changing speed limits. Some features are optional, so you should confirm exactly what’s installed on the car you’re considering.
- Infotainment: The cabin tech includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a built-in web browser, and a configurable digital instrument panel. The review also highlights a head-up display and a premium Burmester audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive E300 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, while the E300 4Matic is rated at 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. The E400 coupe is rated at 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, and the E400 4Matic wagon is rated at 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
Which 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E300 sedan, E300 4Matic sedan, E400 coupe, and E400 4Matic wagon.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The E300 sedan gives you the entry point, but the review makes clear that the four-cylinder is the weakest powertrain choice for this car. You should also expect some of the most desirable safety and semi-autonomous features to be tied to expensive packages rather than standard equipment.
- Sweet-spot trim: The E300 4Matic sedan is the better everyday pick if you want all-weather traction and a more complete ownership experience without jumping to the pricier body styles. It keeps the core luxury feel while adding AWD.
- Premium/top trim: The E400 coupe is the most compelling upscale choice here because it pairs the stronger V6 with the more dramatic body style and a richer feel overall. It is the best fit if you want the strongest blend of performance and prestige.
- Off-road trim: The E400 4Matic wagon is the practical outlier, but it is not the best daily-driver value if you are mainly shopping for a sedan-like luxury experience.
Mercedes also notes that many of the safety and semi-autonomous features are locked into the expensive Premium 3 package, so you should verify equipment carefully before buying.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,399 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.91% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,336.60, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $23,383 sits slightly below last year's $25,954.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you shop carefully now, you may have less downside left than a buyer who paid closer to the model’s earlier average. Strong demand for well-kept luxury cars can also help support resale, especially when the car has a clean history and desirable equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.76/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The E-Class earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability. It is also a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Mercedes equips the E-Class with Car-to-X Communication, automatic braking that can detect crossing traffic and people, adaptive cruise control that can react to changing speed limits, and a system that can help steer around an obstacle during an emergency. The review also mentions rear side airbags on the tested car, though those are optional.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.91% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.76/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 stands out for its advanced technology and top-tier safety score.
The bottom line: If you want a used E-Class with strong owner satisfaction, standout tech, and a softer price than last year, the 2018 is a smart primary target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop nearby years, but the 2018’s combination of market softness and feature depth makes it the more compelling buy for many shoppers.
