Why it stands out
Mercedes-Benz offers the 2018 E-Class as a midsize luxury car that aims squarely at buyers who want a premium experience. The expert test drive data describes it as “the ultimate midsize luxury car for the ultimate price,” and says that while you pay a lot, the reward is owning one of the finest luxury cars on the face of the planet. That framing makes the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class distinctive right away: it is positioned as a no-compromise luxury choice rather than a value play.
Owner feedback reinforces that appeal, with praise for the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. At the same time, some owners note the possibility of high maintenance costs after the warranty period and minor wear-and-tear concerns. Taken together, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a polished, high-end sedan that delivers the comfort and sophistication many luxury buyers are seeking, while asking them to accept the costs that can come with that level of refinement.

The 2018 Mercedes E300 W213 is a very good value in the used car market. Find one with good maintenance history and not abused. The turbocharged four cylinder engine provides enough power for daily driving, is economical, and the car is very comfortable for long trips.

Sadly I was involved in a single car accident with a rim and tire blown out and caused me to lose control and wreck into a guardrail and total my e350 none repairable but am convinced that the car saved my life that day if I had been in any other car I believe I would have died this car is so reliable safe and great on gas for the size and very beautiful looking car I miss her so much the best car I ever had owned hands down I give it a solid 10+

Great engine and transmission. Great immediate power. Nice ride and drive, feedback from the suspension and steering. Very nice interior and every set up. Except there is moderate rattle noise from the dash which I believe can be fixed by padding the inside and the edges of the dash. Other than that, a perfect daily.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.76/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.00/10. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, and advanced features. The overview also points to a car that fits buyers who want a refined luxury sedan with comfort for long journeys and a strong technology focus. With 33.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find attractive pricing if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.76/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary also points to a car that feels dependable and trouble-free for many shoppers, with praise centered on the smooth ride, luxury, and overall satisfaction. The expert review reinforces that sense of confidence by describing the car as calm, noise-proof, and composed in everyday driving.
At the same time, some owners note higher maintenance costs after the warranty period, so long-term ownership risk is mainly about upkeep rather than basic appeal.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury car: interior wear, electronics, and evidence of deferred maintenance. If the car has been in an accident, make sure repairs were done cleanly and that the car still drives and tracks properly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin is defined by high-end materials, giant high-resolution screens, bright ambient lighting in 64 colors, and a luxury-focused presentation. The Luxury Line changes the exterior look with a classic grille and standing hood ornament, while the coupe uses a more aggressive sport style.
- Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is efficient but feels underpowered in this heavier car, while the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 is the better choice for passing power and relaxed performance. The 9-speed automatic can feel reluctant in Comfort but responds better in Sport.
- Safety package: Mercedes includes Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking, crosswind mitigation, and steering assistance in emergency situations. Many of these features are optional, and several are tied to the expensive Premium 3 package.
- Infotainment: The cabin tech includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a built-in web browser, a head-up display, and configurable digital displays. The system is feature-rich, but some of the most advanced equipment depends on package selection.
- Fuel efficiency: The E300 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg city and 30 highway, or 21/29 with 4Matic. The E400 coupe is rated at 20/26, while the E400 4Matic wagon is rated at 19/25. In testing, the E300 averaged 29 mpg over mostly highway driving, and the E400 averaged 23 mpg over 600 miles.
Which 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E300 sedan, E300 4Matic sedan, E400 coupe, E400 4Matic wagon.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The E300 sedan gives you the core luxury experience, but the most advanced safety and semi-autonomous features are not standard and many are tied to an expensive package.
- Sweet-spot trim: The E300 4Matic sedan is the best value if you want the mainstream E-Class experience with all-wheel drive and the same upscale cabin without moving into the pricier body styles.
- Premium/top trim: The E400 coupe and E400 4Matic wagon add the stronger 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, which is the better powertrain for this car and makes the E-Class feel more effortless in daily driving.
- Off-road trim: Not applicable here.
Many of the safety and semi-autonomous features are locked into the expensive Premium 3 package, so check package content carefully before you buy.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, which gives you room to shop carefully.

What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $23,450 sits slightly below last year's $26,133.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help you if you buy used and hold the car for a while. For a future seller, the softer market means you may not recover as much as you paid unless you buy well and keep the car in excellent condition. The strongest resale outcomes will likely come from well-maintained examples with desirable equipment and clean history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.76/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The E-Class earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability. It is also rated a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Mercedes includes Car-to-X Communication, which can send safety alerts about slippery roads and poor weather to other E-Class drivers nearby. The car also offers Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking that can detect crossing traffic and pedestrians, crosswind mitigation, and steering assistance during an emergency stop. Some safety equipment is optional, and the most advanced features are tied to the Premium 3 package.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.27% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.76/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- You want the year that pairs strong luxury, standout technology, and top-tier safety with a noticeably softer used-car price.
The bottom line: The 2018 model year makes sense if you want a well-equipped E-Class at a more favorable used price than last year’s average. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can focus on the best-deal listings and prioritize clean history and maintenance records over chasing the newest example.
