Why it stands out
Mercedes-Benz offers the 2018 E-Class as a midsize luxury car that aims squarely at buyers who want a premium experience. The expert test drive data describes it as “the ultimate midsize luxury car for the ultimate price,” and says that while you pay a lot, the reward is owning one of the finest luxury cars on the face of the planet. That framing makes the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class distinctive right away: it is positioned as a no-compromise luxury choice rather than a value play.
Owner feedback reinforces that appeal, with praise for the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. At the same time, some owners note the possibility of high maintenance costs after the warranty period and minor wear-and-tear concerns. Taken together, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a polished, high-end sedan that delivers the comfort and sophistication many luxury buyers are seeking, while asking them to accept the costs that can come with that level of refinement.

The 2018 Mercedes E300 W213 is a very good value in the used car market. Find one with good maintenance history and not abused. The turbocharged four cylinder engine provides enough power for daily driving, is economical, and the car is very comfortable for long trips.

Sadly I was involved in a single car accident with a rim and tire blown out and caused me to lose control and wreck into a guardrail and total my e350 none repairable but am convinced that the car saved my life that day if I had been in any other car I believe I would have died this car is so reliable safe and great on gas for the size and very beautiful looking car I miss her so much the best car I ever had owned hands down I give it a solid 10+

Great engine and transmission. Great immediate power. Nice ride and drive, feedback from the suspension and steering. Very nice interior and every set up. Except there is moderate rattle noise from the dash which I believe can be fixed by padding the inside and the edges of the dash. Other than that, a perfect daily.

How much does the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,614 |
| Year-Round Low | $23,299.49 |
| Year-Round High | $25,693.38 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $25,696 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.10% |
Prices have softened 8.10% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,414 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $23,299.49, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.76/5 owner rating points to strong satisfaction with this model year. The expert rating is 8.00/10, and the model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. That lines up with the overview’s positioning of the E-Class as a premium midsize luxury car for buyers who want a high-end experience rather than a value play.
With 32.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively if you want the right combination of equipment and price.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.76/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. The expert drive notes that the car is calm and noise-proof, and that it arrives feeling refreshed after long drives, which reinforces the sense that it’s built for relaxed, trouble-free use.
The cost-effectiveness notes also make clear that this is a car where the purchase price is only part of the story, so used buyers should plan carefully for long-term ownership costs after the warranty period.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a long option list. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury car: interior wear, electronics, and evidence of deferred maintenance. Because this model can be expensive to own, it’s worth being especially careful about how well the car has been maintained.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin is described as a VIP lounge with inlaid wood, bright LED mood lighting in 64 colors, giant high-res screens, and two-tone leather combinations, while the coupe adds pillarless styling and powered rear half windows. The Luxury Line is noted as an option for the sedan and wagon, replacing the large Mercedes emblem with a classic thin-lined grille and standing hood ornament.
- Powertrain: The E300 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, while the E400 uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The V6 is the stronger choice if you want easier passing power and a more relaxed feel in this heavier luxury car.
- Safety package: The car includes Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking that can detect crossing traffic and people, and adaptive cruise control that can recognize changing speed limits. Some features are optional, and rear side airbags are noted as optional on the coupe and sedan.
- Infotainment: The E-Class includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a built-in web browser, a head-up display, and a configurable instrument panel. The tech suite is extensive and can feel overwhelming, but it is one of the car’s biggest strengths.
- Fuel efficiency: The E300 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg city and 30 highway, while the E300 4Matic is rated at 21/29. The E400 coupe is rated at 20/26, and the E400 4Matic wagon is rated at 19/25.
Which 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E300 sedan, E300 4Matic sedan, E400 coupe, E400 4Matic wagon.
Here's the short version:
- E300 sedan: This is the entry point and the most affordable way into the E-Class. It gives you the core luxury experience, but the four-cylinder is described as underpowered for the car’s size, so it makes the most sense if you want the badge and comfort first and foremost.
- E300 4Matic sedan: This is the better-value pick if you want the E-Class experience with all-wheel drive. It adds traction confidence without changing the car’s luxury mission, and it’s a smart choice if you expect to drive in poor weather.
- E400 coupe: This is the best choice if you want the strongest balance of performance and style. The V6 is described as the best engine choice, and the coupe’s pillarless design and sportier look make it the most distinctive version.
- E400 4Matic wagon: This is the niche pick for shoppers who want the wagon body style and the stronger V6 powertrain. It’s the most practical body style in the lineup, but it’s also the least common and sits at the premium end of the range.
The safety package is extensive, but many of the most advanced features are tied to the expensive Premium 3 package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,414 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.10% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,299.49, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $23,614 sits slightly below last year's $25,696.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now if you plan to keep the car for a while. For a future seller, the softer pricing means there may be less upside than in a stronger market, especially if the car has average mileage or visible wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.76/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The E-Class scored a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and earned five-star ratings overall, in frontal crash, side crash, and rollover vulnerability from NHTSA.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety suite includes Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking that can detect crossing traffic and people, and adaptive cruise control that can recognize changing speed limits. The car can also aid steering around an obstacle, boost braking force in an emergency, and help counter crosswinds.
Some of these features are optional, and rear side airbags are noted as optional on the coupe and sedan. The biggest caveat is that many of the most advanced safety features are tied to the expensive Premium 3 package.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.10% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.76/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 stands out for its exceptional technology and safety, with an expert rating of 8.00/10 and top marks in both categories.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the right choice if you want this generation’s luxury, tech, and safety at a softer used-car price than last year. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can shop carefully for a well-kept example with a clean history and strong maintenance records, since condition and ownership costs matter a lot in this class.
