overall

Summary
With 369 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,582.00, 30.1% of 2018 Mazda MAZDA6s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
54.7% of 2018 MAZDA6 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 stands out because Mazda gave it a slight redesign, a new Signature trim, and the addition of a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine from the CX-9. Those changes were aimed at helping the sedan reach farther upmarket, giving it a more upscale feel than buyers might expect from a mainstream midsize car. The result is a Mazda6 that tries to balance value at the lower end with a more luxurious presentation at the top.
What makes this model especially appealing is that it combines a redesigned interior with a new top-tier trim, which helps the cabin feel more premium. The turbocharged engine also broadens its appeal by adding a stronger performance option. Based on the available information, the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is a good fit for shoppers who want style, a comfortable ride, and an upscale atmosphere without moving to a luxury badge.

Love the car!! Ive been a Mazda fan for years and they just continue to improve. I purchased the Signature, and its fantastic. Loaded with features, tons of power thanks to the turbo, and a very very quiet ride. With snow tires on it also does well in the snow.

Easily one of the top choices in its segment. It drives and has an interior from a car that costs twice as much. Its very good looking outside as well. Its efficient, spacious, and reliable. And NOTHING DRIVES LIKE THIS. it feels amazing to be behind the wheel of one of these. Excellent car all the way around.

The overview points to a sedan that balances value at the lower end with a more luxurious presentation at the top, and that matches the feedback: you get a car that feels more premium than many mainstream midsize rivals. Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 reliable?

The expert review also emphasizes the Mazda6’s solid driving character and well-rounded execution, which supports the idea that it should be a dependable daily driver if it has been maintained properly. What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?
At 54.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one priced near the low end of the market. Focus your condition check on tires, brakes, and interior wear, since those are the kinds of items that can change the real cost of ownership quickly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport trim starts with a refreshed front fascia, redesigned dashboard layout, standard LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera. It also offers the i-Activesense package for added driver assistance, while higher trims add features like 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, heated front seats, faux leather, and more upscale cabin materials.
- Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder makes 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, and the turbocharged 2.5-liter adds 250 hp and 310 lb-ft. The standard engine is efficient and pleasant, while the turbo version gives you much stronger acceleration and a more premium driving feel.
- Safety package: The standard setup includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera. The i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist.
- Infotainment: The Mazda Connect system uses an 8-inch touchscreen with rotary control, and smartphone integration arrives through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The available head-up display adds traffic sign recognition and turn-by-turn guidance.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine returns 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg for 29 combined. The turbocharged engine returns 23 city mpg, 31 highway mpg, and 26 combined mpg.
Which 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Signature.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want a strong safety and feature set. You get the standard 2.5-liter engine, LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera. If you want the best-value trim, this is the one to start with.
- Touring: This trim adds a more upscale feel with 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats with driver power, faux leather, rear vents, and rear USB charging. It’s the better pick if you want a more comfortable daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- Grand Touring: This is the first trim to bring the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, along with an upgraded infotainment system, an 11-speaker stereo, navigation, and satellite radio. Choose this if you want the stronger performance option and a more premium tech experience.
- Signature: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, real wood trim, LED interior lighting, and other upscale touches. It’s the trim to buy if you want the most premium cabin and the most complete presentation.
The safety package is especially strong because the base Sport already includes key driver-assistance features, and the available i-Activesense package adds even more protection.

What is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?
The current average of $16,607 sits slightly below last year's $17,338.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited if the broader trend stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the best protection is to buy well, keep the car in strong condition, and avoid overpaying today.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?
It earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except rollover and front passenger side tests, which garnered four-star ratings.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. That means you can get a strong baseline of protection even on the lower trims.
One caveat is that braking performance trails some rivals, so if safety is a top priority, you may want to pay close attention to tire condition and overall maintenance history when shopping used.
Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 24.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.22% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Mazda added a slight redesign, a new Signature trim, and a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, which broaden the car’s appeal and make it feel more upscale.
The bottom line: The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is the right pick if you want the strongest mix of style, value, and premium feel in this generation. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and target the lower end of the market, but the 2018 stands out because it adds meaningful upgrades that make it feel more complete than nearby years.
