The expert evaluation also emphasizes the model’s improved durability-minded updates for 2018, including thicker seals, glass, insulation, and sound deadening, which support a more settled feel over time.

The CX-3’s standard 6-speed automatic and proven 2.0-liter setup should keep ownership straightforward, but used buyers should still watch for wear tied to age, mileage, and prior use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda CX-3?

At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because the CX-3 is a compact crossover with limited cargo space, it also makes sense to focus on how well the interior and load area have held up in real use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim gets 16-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, a 7-inch touchscreen with a reversing camera, app integration through Mazda Connect, cruise control, Bluetooth, air conditioning, and a 6-speaker stereo. The Touring adds 18-inch alloys, auto headlights and wipers, heated seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto climate controls, heated mirrors, proximity entry, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.
• Powertrain: Every CX-3 uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It delivers 146 hp and strong real-world response, with handling improvements that make the vehicle feel more agile.
• Safety package: Standard low-speed emergency braking is part of the 2018 update, and the model is listed as a Top Safety Pick+ with a five-star rating from NHTSA. More advanced safety systems are available on higher trims, and the Premium Package adds upgraded forward-collision warning and auto-braking, adaptive cruise, lane-departure warning, auto high beams, and traffic-sign recognition.
• Infotainment: The CX-3 uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Mazda Connect. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included, which is worth weighing if smartphone integration matters to you.
• Fuel efficiency: The CX-3 is rated at 29 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, and the expert review notes that real-world driving can come close to those figures.

Which 2018 Mazda CX-3 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mazda CX-3 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value play if you want the CX-3’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You still get the 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, push-button start, and the standard safety update, so it covers the essentials well.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience upgrades that make daily use easier, including heated seats, auto climate controls, proximity entry, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the most upscale CX-3 experience, with leather-trimmed seats, a head-up display, paddle shifters, navigation, and the available Premium Package safety upgrades.

Mazda notes that more advanced safety systems are available on higher trims, and the Premium Package is the route to the most complete safety setup.

What is the 2018 Mazda CX-3's resale value?

The current average of $14,941 sits slightly below last year's $15,221.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-3 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A model with strong demand and a good reputation for driving enjoyment can still hold buyer interest, especially when it’s well maintained and accident-free.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Mazda CX-3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.84% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 update adds standard low-speed emergency braking and a more refined cabin.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $15,795, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $14,941 average.
• It adds a fresher, more polished look and a more upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2018 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and meaningful safety updates. If you’re willing to spend more for a fresher-feeling version, the 2019 is the better path.
