Is the 2018 Lexus IS a good car?

Generally — 4.38/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the feedback points to a car that delivers a smooth ride, stylish design, and a sporty feel with solid power. Reviewers also highlighted the advanced safety equipment, which fits the IS’s role as a compact luxury sports sedan for buyers who want something fun to drive without stepping up to a larger luxury sedan. That said, the same reviews also reinforce that the back seat is tight and the cabin is better suited to drivers who do not need much rear-passenger space. With 36.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a value-oriented example.

Is the 2018 Lexus IS reliable?

Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary also points to a dependable ownership experience, with buyers praising the car’s smooth ride and premium feel while noting that it remains a trouble-free choice for many shoppers. That combination of reliability-minded feedback and Lexus refinement makes it appealing if you want a used luxury sedan you can count on over the long term. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the car’s basic durability and more about finding one with clean history and consistent maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Lexus IS?

At 49.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a lower-priced listing or one with incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car still feels tight and well-kept, since that matters more than mileage alone on a used luxury sedan.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Lexus IS?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 462 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.80% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 49.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,620, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $22,677 sits slightly below last year's $23,573.

That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the current trend means your best resale outcome will likely come from buying a clean, well-maintained example and holding it in strong condition. A model with a good reputation and steady shopper interest should still attract attention, but the recent price decline means you should not expect rapid appreciation.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 49.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line:

The 2018 is a smart pick if you want a compact luxury sports sedan with strong owner approval, a softer price than last year, and enough inventory to shop selectively. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby model years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price alone.
