About 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
The Subaru Crosstrek falls in the subcompact crossover category, just like the Ford EcoSport, Jeep Renegade, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, and Nissan Rogue Sport. However, the Crosstrek is the only one that offers a fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) option. For 2020, the Crosstrek Hybrid sees no notable updates. Every version of the Crosstrek Hybrid comes with a 2.0-liter boxer 4-cylinder engine, a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), two electric motors, and a large lithium-ion battery. The whole system makes 148 horsepower. Like most other Subarus, the Crosstrek Hybrid also comes standard with Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive (AWD) system with an off-road mode. The Crosstrek Hybrid is a full second faster than the Crosstrek to 60 miles per hour and can tow up to 1,000 pounds. Fuel economy for the Crosstrek Hybrid is 35 mpg combined in hybrid mode and 90 miles-per-gallon equivalent in electric mode. It offers 17 miles of all-electric range and 480 miles of total range. Like most PHEVs, regenerative braking helps replenish the battery on the go and alleviates stress from the mechanical brakes. It takes 5 hours to recharge the Crosstrek Hybrid from a standard Level 1 120-volt household charger. That decreases to 2 hours with a Level 2 charger. Unfortunately, there’s no DC fast-charging capability. Standard features for the Crosstrek Hybrid include 18-inch wheels, adaptive LED headlights, LED fog lights, a power driver seat, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, keyless start and access, an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a drive-mode selector, and dual USB ports. An optional package gets you a sunroof, navigation, Harman Kardon premium audio with 432 watts, and a heated steering wheel. On the safety front, Subaru gives the Crosstrek its complete list of EyeSight safety features. These include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure and sway warning, automatic high-beams, lane-change assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Crosstrek Hybrid scored a 2019 Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). As of this writing, the Crosstrek Hybrid is eligible for a $4,502 federal tax credit.
