CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Honda Civic

Summary
With 221 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,023, 47.5% of 2018 Honda Civic listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Honda Civic 4.71 / 5 stars.
84.6% of 2018 Honda Civic listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Honda Civic stands out as a compact car that blends practicality with a genuinely engaging driving character. Owners praise its value, reliability, and fuel economy, and the car’s safety features and technology add to its appeal. It also has a stylish, sporty personality that helps it feel more distinctive than many everyday commuters.
For 2018, the Civic sits in the 10th generation, which earned wide critical praise for its handling, features, and practicality. The hatchback version arrived for 2017 with two turbocharged powertrains, and the base LX included automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, a folding rear seat, a four-speaker audio system with a USB port, and a 5-inch infotainment screen. Available features on higher trims included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a moonroof, blind-spot monitors, heated front and rear seats, leather, navigation, and a power driver’s seat. Honda Sensing was optional at launch and became standard across the lineup in 2020, so a 2018 buyer needs to verify whether a given car has it fitted.
There are also a few reasons to shop carefully. The generation has known issues including air conditioning failures, oil dilution in the turbocharged engines, fuel injector failures, a fuel pump recall, and sticky electric power steering. Consumer Reports rates reliability below average for hatchbacks built before 2020, and the 2017 to 2019 model years logged a high number of consumer complaints. Even so, the 2018 Honda Civic remains appealing because it combines strong everyday usability, good efficiency, and a broad feature set with the kind of driving feel that keeps it near the top of the compact-car class.

This car is a great value with the rising gas prices and economical 2.0 four cylinder engine I will be saving money at the pump. The safety features alone are something that is needed in this age of self driving cars and people not paying attention on the roads. Have only had this ex version for a few days now but already love it.

Is the 2018 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Honda Civic earns a 4.71/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its great value, reliability, and impressive fuel economy, and they also highlight its safety features and technology. That fits well if you want a compact car that balances everyday practicality with a stylish, sporty personality. With 32.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitive offer.
Is the 2018 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as reliable and dependable, and the feedback also points to a car that many drivers can count on for everyday use. The same owner sentiment emphasizes value and fuel economy, which often go hand in hand with trouble-free ownership when the car has been maintained well. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure a specific car has been cared for carefully, since condition can vary a lot from one listing to another.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Honda Civic?
At 48.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you commit. A pre-purchase inspection should get priority, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on overall condition, because the best used Civic is the one with clean documentation and evidence of consistent maintenance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Honda Civic?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,711 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.64% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 48.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,651, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $16,222 sits slightly below last year's $16,662.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay realistic on asking price. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. Strong demand for a model with this level of owner satisfaction can help support resale value, especially when the car is well maintained and documented.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 48.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $17,454, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $16,222 average.
- It adds a broader lineup with more body styles and powertrain choices.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2018 is the stronger starting point because pricing has eased and owner satisfaction is high. If you are willing to spend more for a wider range of configurations, the 2019 is the better secondary path for shoppers who want more choice than the 2018 typically offers.
