What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Genesis G80?

At 57.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on the condition of the cabin electronics, suspension behavior, and the overall quality of the exterior and interior finish, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been preserved. If you want the best ownership experience, look for a car that still feels tight, quiet, and complete.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The G80 Sport comes fully equipped, with the only options being rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, paint, and upholstery. It adds adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, heated seats front and rear with ventilated sport fronts, a head-up display, a multi-view camera, auto wipers, heated side mirrors with auto dimming, dual-zone auto climate control, a power rear sunshade, a hands-free trunk lid, driver’s memory settings, and power front seats with lumbar adjustment.
• Powertrain: The Sport uses a twin-turbo, 3.3-liter V6 with strong low-end torque and a quick surge off the line. It is described as a better fit than the V8 for drivability and fuel economy, while the adaptive suspension helps sharpen the car’s edge without turning it into a hard-edged sports sedan.
• Safety package: It includes parking sensors front and rear, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and auto-brake. The suite is standard on the Sport, while many of those features are grouped into a package on lower trims.
• Infotainment: The cabin gets a 9.2-inch touchscreen with navigation, Genesis Connected Services, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 14-speaker Lexicon stereo, a wireless charging pad, and an upgraded driver display.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test-drive data cites an EPA estimate of 17 mpg city, 25 highway, and 20 combined, and notes a real-world average of 18 mpg during testing.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Genesis G80?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 326 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.54% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,331, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Genesis G80's resale value?

The current average of $18,944 sits slightly below last year's $19,438.

That tells you the market has softened, which can work against a future seller if depreciation continues at the same pace. On the other hand, the current pricing also suggests the car is already positioned as a value play, which can help keep it attractive to used buyers. If you maintain the car well and keep it in clean condition, you improve your odds of holding demand when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Genesis G80 safe?

The 2018 Genesis G80 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except for a four-star rating for the driver’s safety in side crashes, and it is a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes parking sensors front and rear, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and auto-brake. That gives you a broad set of driver-assistance features right from the start.

The main caveat is that the NHTSA side-crash result is slightly lower than the rest of its crash-test performance, so that is worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2018 Genesis G80 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 adds a more performance-focused character with the G80 Sport’s twin-turbo V6, adaptive suspension, and value-oriented luxury-sedan formula.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $15,613, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,944 average.
• It offers a distinctive luxury-sedan design with strong owner satisfaction and a credible upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest blend of performance, equipment, and value, the 2018 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly path and still gives you a premium-feeling sedan.
