CarGurus Analysis: 2018 GMC Acadia
overall

Summary
With 2,683 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,544, 30.2% of 2018 GMC Acadia models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 GMC Acadia 4.79 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
61.5% of 2018 Acadia models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 GMC Acadia stands out as a three-row crossover that became more versatile when V6 power was made available to more trims. That matters because the Acadia had already been reworked to shed more than 700 pounds, and the payoff was improved handling, braking, and fuel economy, along with a bit more towing capacity and third-row legroom.
At the same time, the 2018 Acadia is not without compromise. The 4-cylinder engine was described as largely inadequate to its task, which makes the broader availability of the V6 especially important for buyers who want stronger performance. Owner feedback also points to a spacious, comfortable interior and a roomy, family-friendly layout, though some drivers noted concerns about cost and limited trunk space.

The stereo system is low budget. Needs more quality , it couldn’t hurt considering the price for the vehicle.

My new/used 2018 Acadia is just what I was looking for. It has mostly all the bells and whistles. I thought it had a heated steering wheel, but I cant locate the button for it. Otherwise the 1 owner who owned it before me took really good care of it and it is very very tight! Nice find for me

I love my 2018 Acadia. I bought it in 2020 as a CPO vehicle, and it felt and looked brand new. My previous car was an 05 BMW X5 and drove like a sports car. I needed my next SUV to handle the road similarly and it had to be towable. It checked off those boxes easily. I also wanted a 3rd row seat. And the 2nd row seats had to be a bench seat to accommodate my 120lb dog. On top of all that, it had to be reliable!! I LOVE my Acadia and would recommend it to anyone.

The main long-term ownership concern is that the 6-speed transmission can feel lurchy at low speeds and sluggish on the highway, so a careful test drive matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 GMC Acadia?
At 61.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with prior bodywork. Focus on how the transmission shifts, whether the cabin and cargo area match your family needs, and whether the trim’s equipment level justifies the asking price. If you want the best balance of value and usability, compare condition carefully across trims rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SL is the simplest setup, with the 2.5-liter engine and front-wheel drive only, while the SLE adds all-wheel drive and unlocks the V6 option. The SLT1 brings leather, upgraded front seats, a better driver display, and more driver-assistance tech, while the SLT2 adds more convenience and safety equipment. The Denali is the luxury-focused choice with the most upscale cabin and features.
- Powertrain: The 2.5-liter four-cylinder is described as inadequate for anything beyond commuter duty, while the 3.6-liter V6 is the better choice for towing, hauling, or carrying a full family. The V6 delivers stronger acceleration and better overall confidence, though both engines use the same 6-speed transmission.
- Safety package: The Driver Alert I package adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Driver Alert II package adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. Some of the most useful safety tech is not standard on lower trims.
- Infotainment: The base setup includes a 7-inch touchscreen with Intellilink, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Higher trims add an upgraded driver display, a larger touchscreen, and navigation, while the Denali gets virtual gauges and an 8-inch screen.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 21 mpg city and 26 highway, while the V6 is rated at 17 mpg city, 25 highway, and 20 combined.
Which 2018 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?
The 2018 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SL: This is the value entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the Acadia, but it is limited to the 2.5-liter engine and front-wheel drive. You still get a useful set of standard tech, including the touchscreen interface, smartphone integration, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, so it works best if you mainly want the cabin space and basic family features.
- SLE1: This trim is the first step toward the more versatile Acadia because it opens the door to all-wheel drive and the V6. It adds LED running lights and satellite radio, making it a sensible choice if you want more capability without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated power front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, remote start, and standard second-row captain’s chairs. If you want the most family-friendly mix of comfort and convenience without moving into luxury pricing, this is the one to target.
- SLT1: This trim is the first one that feels genuinely upscale, with leather upholstery, power lumbar support, a Bose stereo, and a strong safety bundle. It suits you if you want a more premium daily driver and appreciate the added driver-assistance features.
- SLT2: This is the better pick if you want more advanced safety and towing-oriented equipment, including lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. It also adds heated second-row seats and a trailering package, so it makes sense if you want a more fully equipped family hauler.
- Denali: This is the luxury choice, with the biggest screen, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and distinctive styling. It is the right fit if you want the most upscale Acadia experience and are willing to pay for it.
The Driver Alert packages are important because some of the Acadia’s most useful safety features are trim-dependent rather than standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 GMC Acadia?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,673 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.31% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,499, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 GMC Acadia's resale value?
The current average of $15,549 sits slightly below last year's $17,531.
That price decline suggests the Acadia has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you reduce the amount of value left to lose. Strong feature content and broad family appeal can help support demand later, especially for well-kept examples with the V6 and desirable equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 GMC Acadia safe?
The Acadia was named a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS when equipped with the Driver Alert II package, and it earns five-star ratings in frontal collision tests and four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Driver Alert I package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Driver Alert II package adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. Standard safety equipment also includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, multiple airbags, and Teen Driver technology. The key caveat is that some of the best safety tech is not standard across the lineup.
Should I buy a 2018 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- GMC broadened V6 availability, improving versatility and making stronger performance easier to get.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $13,184, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $15,549 average.
- It introduced a smaller, lighter redesign with a more modern feel.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $17,278, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $15,549 average.
- It feels more upscale and refined, with a more distinctive cabin.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and family usefulness, the 2018 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2017 can save you money, but you should be more selective about trim and condition. If you want a more upscale feel and can spend more, the 2019 is worth a look.
