Is the 2018 GMC Acadia a good car?

Yes — the 2018 GMC Acadia earns a 4.79/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the spacious, comfortable interior, the roomy family-friendly layout, and the useful feature set. The overview also points to a three-row crossover that works well for families who want more versatility, especially with the broader availability of V6 power. That said, you should weigh the roomy cabin and family focus against the cost concerns some owners mention.

Only 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market rewards careful comparison rather than rushing.

Is the 2018 GMC Acadia reliable?

Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, comfortable, and family-friendly vehicle that many people feel good about living with over time. The expert notes also support that impression by describing the Acadia as a strong fit for buyers who want a versatile family vehicle with improved handling, braking, and fuel economy after the weight reduction. The V6’s broader availability also helps if you want a powertrain that feels more capable for everyday use and longer-term ownership.

If you buy used, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example with the wrong engine or a neglected transmission.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 GMC Acadia?

At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with prior bodywork. Pay close attention to cabin condition, cargo-area wear, and how the transmission behaves at low speeds and on the highway. If you need towing, hauling, or regular family duty, make sure the powertrain matches your use case.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SL trim is the most basic setup, with the 2.5-liter engine and front-wheel drive only, while the SLE adds all-wheel drive and unlocks the V6 option. The SLT1 brings leather upholstery, upgraded front seats, a better driver display, and more driver-assistance features, while the SLT2 adds more convenience and safety equipment. The Denali is the luxury-focused choice with the most upscale cabin and tech, but it also carries the highest price.
• Powertrain: The 2.5-liter four-cylinder is described as inadequate for anything beyond commuter duty, while the 3.6-liter V6 is the stronger choice for towing, hauling, and family use. The V6 delivers 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque, with 17 mpg city, 25 highway, and 20 combined.
• Safety package: The Driver Alert I package adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Driver Alert II package adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The most advanced adaptive cruise setup is limited to the Denali.
• Infotainment: The base setup includes a 7-inch touchscreen with Intellilink, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Higher trims add an upgraded driver display, a larger touchscreen, and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder returns 21 mpg city and 26 highway, while the V6 returns 17 mpg city, 25 highway, and 20 combined.

Which 2018 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?

The 2018 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SL: This is the value entry point if you want the lowest starting price and can live with front-wheel drive and the four-cylinder engine. You still get a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, tri-zone climate control, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, so it’s not stripped bare.
• SLE1: This trim is the first step up if you want all-wheel drive and access to the V6. It also adds LED running lights and satellite radio, making it a sensible middle ground for buyers who want more capability without jumping too far in price.
• SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated power front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, remote start, and standard second-row captain’s chairs. If you want family convenience and easier third-row access, this is the trim to focus on.
• SLT1: This trim is for you if you want a more premium cabin and more standard safety tech. Leather upholstery, a Bose stereo, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors make it a strong upgrade.
• SLT2: This is the better pick if you want more advanced safety and comfort features, including lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, heated second-row seats, and a trailering package. It’s the right choice if you plan to tow or want the most complete mainstream setup.
• Denali: Choose this if you want the most upscale Acadia, with navigation, virtual gauges, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, and a hands-free liftgate. It’s the luxury choice, but it comes at a steep price.

The safety-package trim note is simple: the IIHS Top Safety Pick result applies only when the Driver Alert II package is equipped.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 GMC Acadia?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough price softness to create opportunities.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,777 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.36% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,401, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 GMC Acadia's resale value?

The current average of $15,401 sits slightly below last year's $17,374.

That softer pricing suggests the Acadia has already moved into a more buyer-friendly part of its value curve. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. The strongest resale prospects will likely come from well-equipped, accident-free examples with the V6 and desirable safety features.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 GMC Acadia safe?

The 2018 GMC Acadia earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS when equipped with the Driver Alert II package, and it earns five-star ratings in frontal crash tests and four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full airbag suite, and Teen Driver technology. The Driver Alert I package adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The main caveat is that the strongest IIHS result depends on the right package, and the most advanced adaptive cruise setup is reserved for the Denali.

Should I buy a 2018 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The V6 is now available on more trims, giving you better everyday capability and stronger towing confidence.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $13,116, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $15,401 average.
• It introduced the lighter redesign and a more modern feel.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $17,208, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $15,401 average.
• It adds a more upscale cabin and a more refined feel.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, capability, and available V6 power, the 2018 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2017 can save you money, but you’ll want to be especially careful about trim and equipment. If you’re willing to spend more for a more upscale feel, the 2019 is the better alternative.
