How much does the 2018 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 1,902 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Ford Mustang earns 4.61/5 from owners and 8.33/10 from expert testing. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its power, sporty design, and enjoyable driving experience. Fast acceleration and a smooth ride are recurring positives, and the convertible version is especially appreciated for leisure driving.

That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a more sophisticated take on the classic pony car formula, with performance still at the center of the appeal. For shoppers who want a stylish, fun muscle car that still feels usable, the Mustang fits that brief well.

Good and great deals account for 33.3% of listings, so there’s still meaningful value to be found in the market.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.61/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to enthusiasts: strong power, enjoyable driving, and a smooth ride that keeps the experience feeling consistent.

The expert review reinforces that sense of confidence by describing the Mustang as a car that delivers impressive performance with a high level of sophistication. It also notes that the car’s adaptive damping can make it more comfortable for daily driving, which helps it feel like something you can live with over time.

The maintenance perk language in the expert review also adds a small ownership advantage for shoppers considering the right configuration.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the car’s character and more about finding one that has been cared for properly, since condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Mustang?

At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. After that, focus on how the car drives and whether the equipment matches the listing, since owner feedback mentions discrepancies in vehicle specifications. If you’re shopping a performance-oriented example, pay extra attention to wear items and whether the car has been modified or driven hard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The review points to a Mustang GT Premium coupe with leather-like cabin upgrades, higher-quality materials, exposed contrast stitching, and aluminum carbon-pattern trim, while also noting that leather seats require moving up to Premium. That means base trims can feel more stripped down, so you should compare cabin materials and comfort equipment carefully if you want a more upscale interior.
• Powertrain: The review highlights a turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine and a V8 GT, with the GT review focusing on the 5.0-liter V8 making 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. It also notes a 6-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic, plus performance-oriented features like line-lock, launch control, and driving modes.
• Safety package: The car includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The review also notes that the IIHS had not sampled the car with the new driver-assistance technologies at the time.
• Infotainment: You get a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, Sync 3 infotainment, Track Apps, Ford Sync Connect, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The review also mentions a 12-speaker, 390-watt Shaker Pro audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The GT is rated at 19 miles per gallon in combined driving, and the EcoBoost Coupe with a Performance Package is priced at $28,980.

Which 2018 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford Mustang is offered in 3 trim levels: EcoBoost, GT, and GT Premium.

Here's the short version:

• EcoBoost: This is the value play if you want Mustang style and fun without stepping into V8 pricing. The review says you can get a Mustang EcoBoost Coupe with a Performance Package for $28,980, and it still delivers plenty of visual attitude and driving enjoyment.
• GT: This is the choice for buyers who want the full V8 experience. The GT review centers on the 5.0-liter engine, 460 horsepower, and the performance hardware that makes the car feel especially sharp and thrilling.
• GT Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the stronger cabin presentation to go with the performance. It adds higher-quality materials, contrast stitching, and the more upscale interior feel that helps the Mustang blur the line between mainstream and premium.

Safety equipment is broad, but the lane-keeping assist system can detract from driving enjoyment, and you can shut it off if you prefer a more traditional feel.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Mustang?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,902 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,233, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $22,236 sits slightly below last year's $22,377.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable, which is helpful if you’re thinking about future resale. You’re not looking at a model year that has been falling sharply in value, so a well-kept example should remain relatively easy to price against the market.

For a future seller, that means condition, mileage, and trim choice will matter more than broad market movement. A clean, well-documented Mustang should still attract attention because the model has strong enthusiast appeal and a clear identity.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2018 Mustang earns an Acceptable rating from IIHS for small-overlap frontal-impact protection and Good ratings in other crash-test assessments. It also earns a five-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Mustang’s driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The review also notes that these features are calibrated for performance driving, and that the lane-keeping assist system can detract from driving enjoyment.

The main caveat is the IIHS small-overlap result, which is weaker than the rest of the crash-test picture.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 update brings substantial mechanical and technological improvements, including a more sophisticated feel, stronger performance hardware, and added driver-assistance tech.

The bottom line: If you want the most polished version of this generation’s Mustang formula, the 2018 is a strong pick because it blends performance, tech, and owner satisfaction well. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and target the lower end of the range, but you should be especially selective about history and condition.
