Is the 2018 Ford Fusion a good car?

Yes — 5/5 from users, and the expert rating is 8.5/10. The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

The 2018 Ford Fusion stands out because you can shop it as a basic sedan, a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, a luxury-leaning trim, or a genuine sports sedan. That breadth makes it especially useful if you want a midsize car that can be tailored to different priorities, from everyday commuting to more engaging driving.

29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you compare carefully.

Is the 2018 Ford Fusion reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2018 Fusion is described as a car with strong road manners and a broad mix of convenience and safety equipment, and the expert evaluation also notes that it remains satisfying to live with thanks to SYNC 3 and its more modern controls. The performance write-up also points to durable-feeling braking under hard use, which supports the impression of a well-sorted car.

If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well, since the lineup’s variety means equipment and powertrains can vary a lot from one example to the next.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Fusion?

At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim or more heavily optioned example. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the car matches the seller’s description. Because the Fusion lineup spans multiple personalities, it’s also worth checking that the trim and features align with what you actually want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from basic and stylish versions to a luxurious sedan and a genuine sports sedan, and the base trim uses inexpensive hard plastic in places that higher trims improve upon.
• Powertrain: The Fusion is available with a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, and a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6; hybrid versions are rated at 42 mpg in combined driving, and plug-in hybrid versions deliver 97 MPGe with about 20 miles of electric range.
• Safety package: Ford includes a broad set of safety, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance features, plus optional inflatable rear seat belts; the car also offers available driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Sync Connect with FordPass, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Siri Eyes Free, audible text messaging, and 911 Assist, and it can be paired with a Sony premium sound system and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid versions are rated at 42 mpg in combined driving, the plug-in hybrid versions deliver 97 MPGe, and the performance-focused Sport returned 20.6 mpg on the test loop while being rated at 20 mpg combined.

Which 2018 Ford Fusion trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford Fusion is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Fusion’s core style and broad lineup appeal at the lowest starting price. It makes sense if you want the cheapest path into the model and don’t need the extra equipment found higher up.
• SE: This is the best-value trim because it sits in the sweet spot between price and equipment, and the content specifically points to the SE with the optional turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and AWD as a rewarding all-weather family car.
• Titanium: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It adds a more luxurious flavor and suits you if comfort and features matter more than keeping the budget tight.
• Platinum: This is the loaded choice, aimed at you if you want the most luxury-oriented Fusion experience short of the Sport-focused model discussed in the review.

Ford also offers available driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, so it’s worth checking how much of that equipment is included on the specific trim you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Fusion?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,772 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.47% compared with last year.

What is the 2018 Ford Fusion's resale value?

The current average of $11,387 sits slightly below last year's $12,306.

That price movement suggests the Fusion has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it easier to move if you price yours competitively later. The wide lineup also helps keep interest broad, since shoppers can cross-shop everything from efficient versions to sportier or more upscale trims.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Ford Fusion safe?

The 2018 Fusion performs beautifully in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety assessments, including the new front passenger’s side small overlap frontal impact test, but the federal government gives it a three-star crash protection rating for the front passenger.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford offers a broad set of safety, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance features, and the car also includes optional inflatable rear seat belts. The expert review notes that the IIHS would like better headlights and more easily accessible child safety seat anchors, so those are worth checking if safety is a top priority for you.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Fusion or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 Fusion stands out for its unusual breadth of lineup, spanning basic, stylish, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, luxury-leaning, and sports-sedan versions.

The bottom line: If you want the broadest mix of trims, powertrains, and personalities in a midsize sedan, the 2018 Fusion is the right year to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible price, you may also want to compare nearby model years and shop whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, equipment, and deal quality.

How does the 2018 Ford Fusion compare to the 2018 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2018 Ford Fusion 8.5/10 and the 2018 Honda Accord 8.2/10.

The Fusion gives you a much lower average used price and a broader personality range, while the Accord brings stronger fuel economy and more listings to choose from. If you want the better value on paper and more variety in trims and powertrains, the Fusion has the edge; if you want a newer-feeling mainstream midsize sedan with stronger efficiency, the Accord is the more straightforward pick.
