What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Charger?

At 48.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has performance-oriented trim or visible wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of prior damage or heavy use. Because this model can be bought in many configurations, make sure the specific car you’re considering matches the equipment and condition you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT starts with 17-inch aluminum wheels, dual stainless-steel exhaust, push-button start, a 6-way power driver’s seat, dual USB ports, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The GT adds all-wheel drive, a Gloss Black front fascia, 19-inch wheels, and a flat-bottom performance steering wheel with paddle shifters.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 3.6-liter V6 with 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, plus a higher-output version with 300 horsepower and 264 pound-feet in GT trims and SXT trims with the Super Track Pak. V8 choices include a 5.7-liter V8 with 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet, a 6.4-liter V8 with 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet, and a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet.

Which 2018 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2018 Dodge Charger is offered in 8 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona, Daytona 392.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Charger experience at the lowest price. It’s the trim to consider if you want the style, rear-wheel-drive character, and standard tech without paying for extras.
• SXT Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful comfort and convenience upgrades like heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a better audio system without jumping into V8 pricing.
• GT: Choose this if you want all-wheel drive and a more winter-friendly setup. It also adds a sportier look and steering wheel, making it a smart pick if traction matters to you.
• GT Plus: This is the comfort-focused AWD choice, adding heated and cooled seats plus a heated steering wheel. It makes the most sense if you want the GT’s traction with more everyday comfort.
• R/T: This is the least expensive way to get standard V8 power. It’s the right move if you care more about muscle-sedan character than fuel economy.
• R/T Scat Pack: This is the performance sweet spot if you want a big jump in power, Brembo brakes, and a more serious chassis setup. It’s the one to buy if you want the strongest blend of speed and value.
• Daytona: This trim builds on the R/T with performance suspension, a cold air intake, and distinctive appearance upgrades. It suits you if you want extra attitude and sharper hardware than the standard R/T.
• Daytona 392: This is the Daytona with the stronger 6.4-liter V8, so it’s for buyers who want the Daytona look with much more power.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera and rear parking sensors across the lineup, while blind-spot warning and the Technology Group are optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Charger?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,540 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.26% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 48.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,521, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Dodge Charger’s resale value?

The current average of $18,864 sits slightly below last year's $20,123.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already moved through a meaningful portion of its depreciation curve, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. For a future seller, that means your biggest protection is buying a clean, well-kept example rather than overpaying for a rough one. Strong demand for the Charger’s style and performance character should help keep interest steady, especially for desirable trims.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2018 Dodge Charger does not have a crash-test rating cited in the available expert safety content.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection is available, and the Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. Those features are helpful, but some of them are optional rather than standard.

Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 keeps the Charger’s rear-wheel-drive muscle-sedan character while adding modern infotainment and safety tech.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $18,336, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,864 average.
• It delivers a bold, attention-grabbing muscle-car personality.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced buy, the 2018 is the stronger choice because it combines modern tech, broad trim choice, and softer pricing. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2017 is the value path, especially if you find one in clean condition and with the equipment you want.
