CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Dodge Charger
overall

Summary
With 144 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,977, 24.3% of 2018 Dodge Charger listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Dodge Charger 4.7 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.3 / 10.
63.2% of 2018 Dodge Charger listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Dodge Charger stands out because it blends old-school muscle-sedan character with modern features. It is described as a retro sedan in a world of front-wheel-drive conveyances, and it keeps a rear-wheel-drive layout while offering a range of unique trims and special editions. That combination gives it a personality few modern cars can match, especially for buyers who want a four-door sedan with a more traditional performance feel.
At the same time, the 2018 Dodge Charger is not just about nostalgia. It comes with the latest infotainment and safety technology, and it can be bought with all-wheel drive. Its engine lineup also spans from standard V6 power to a 707-horsepower V8, which helps explain why it appeals to shoppers looking for both everyday usability and serious performance. Owners also tend to appreciate its sporty character, smooth ride, stylish design, and spacious interior.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Charger’s appeal is tied closely to power and style, so it may not satisfy buyers who prioritize fuel economy or upscale interior materials. Some owners also mention concerns about gas mileage, fit and finish, and reliability. Even so, the 2018 Dodge Charger remains distinctive because it delivers a rare mix of muscle-car attitude, modern tech, and available all-wheel drive in a practical sedan body.

Absolutely love these line of vehicle! So versatile, and agile if i may say lol, Handles really well in the corners and the power is there if you need it. Dodge definitely outdid itself with this line of vehicles, sports wise as well as family ability! Hope to see more in the future or at least something along the same lines, being that they (Dodge) are converting more to EV’s now (Electric Vehicles). But time will tell!

I thought the car handles and rides nice. Peppy V6. But the fit and finish of the seats and the actual sheet metal were very sub par. I was looking to trade my 06 Suburban in on it. There is no comparison between the two. My 06 Suburban is built much better!

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Charger?
At 48.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has performance-oriented trim or higher mileage. Pay close attention to body condition, signs of prior repair, and how well the interior and mechanical components have held up.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SXT starts with 17-inch aluminum wheels, dual stainless-steel exhaust, push-button start, a 6-way power driver’s seat, dual USB ports, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SXT Plus adds fog lamps, heated power mirrors, 18-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic temperature control, heated front seats, and a six-speaker premium stereo. The GT adds all-wheel drive, a Gloss Black front fascia, 19-inch wheels, and a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters. The GT Plus adds heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. The R/T brings V8 power, a sport suspension, 20-inch wheels, and active exhaust. The Scat Pack adds the 6.4-liter V8, cloth performance seats, and Brembo brakes. The Daytona adds a Mopar cold air intake, three-mode stability control, performance suspension, heavy-duty disc brakes, and unique visual touches. The SRT 392 adds red Brembo calipers, high-performance active damping, and unique SRT interior touches.
- Powertrain: The SXT, SXT Plus, GT, and GT Plus use a 3.6-liter V6 with 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque through an 8-speed automatic. GT trims and SXT trims with the Super Track Pak rise to 300 horsepower and 264 pound-feet. The R/T and Daytona use a 5.7-liter V8 with 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet. The R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, and SRT 392 use a 6.4-liter V8 with 485 hp and 475 lb-ft. The Hellcat uses a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 707 hp and 650 lb-ft. The V6 RWD setup returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined, while the AWD V6 setup returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection is available, and the Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. Some of those features are optional rather than standard.
- Infotainment: The SXT gets a 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Every other trim gets the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The system is designed for simple navigation through menus, and the Charger GT also includes Performance Pages.
- Fuel efficiency: The most efficient Charger is the RWD V6 at 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined. The AWD V6 returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined. The R/T gets 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined, and the Hellcat gets 13 mpg city, 22 highway, 16 combined.
Which 2018 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?
The 2018 Dodge Charger is offered in 10 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona, Daytona 392, SRT 392, and Hellcat.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s core personality at the lowest price. You get the 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the standard comfort and convenience features. It makes the most sense if you want the Charger look and feel without paying for extra performance or luxury equipment.
- SXT Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete daily-driver setup. It adds fog lamps, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, upgraded wheels, and a better stereo, which makes it feel more polished without jumping into V8 territory.
- GT: This is the trim to choose if you want all-wheel drive and a more distinctive driving setup. It adds AWD, a sportier steering wheel, and larger wheels, making it a strong fit if you want extra traction and a more athletic feel.
- GT Plus: This is the comfort-focused version of the GT. It builds on the GT with heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel, so it suits you best if you want AWD plus more premium everyday livability.
- R/T: This is the first V8 trim and the one to buy if engine character matters most. It adds sport suspension, 20-inch wheels, and active exhaust, giving you the classic Charger muscle-sedan experience.
- R/T Scat Pack: This is the performance step-up if you want the strongest value in the V8 lineup. The 6.4-liter V8, Brembo brakes, and performance seats make it the most compelling choice for buyers who want serious speed without going all the way to the top end.
- Daytona: This trim is for you if you want R/T power with extra performance hardware and a more distinctive appearance. The cold air intake, performance suspension, and unique styling details make it a more focused and more special-feeling version of the V8 Charger.
- Daytona 392: This is the Daytona with the stronger 6.4-liter V8, so it suits buyers who want the Daytona’s added hardware and styling with more power.
- SRT 392: This is the more serious performance choice, with active damping, Brembo hardware, and unique SRT touches. It’s the trim to consider if you want the most focused chassis tuning short of the Hellcat.
- Hellcat: This is the extreme choice, with the 707-horsepower supercharged V8. It’s for buyers who want maximum performance and are willing to pay for it.
The safety package is strongest when you add the Technology Group, since several advanced driver-assistance features are not standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Charger?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, but the best listings can still move quickly.
- Deal availability: 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,539 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.83% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 48.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,513, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Dodge Charger's resale value?
The current average of $18,952 sits slightly below last year's $19,915.
That tells you the market has softened, which can work against future sellers if the trend continues. If you buy now, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than on broad market appreciation.
Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher cars, especially because the Charger still has strong enthusiast appeal. A clean history and strong presentation matter more when the market is already pricing the model below last year’s level.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Dodge Charger safe?
The 2018 Dodge Charger earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Dodge makes a reversing camera and rear parking sensors standard across the lineup, along with front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The available Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection is also available.
Some of those driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard, so you should check the exact equipment on any used listing you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 48.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.83% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 stands out for its rear-wheel-drive muscle-sedan character, available all-wheel drive, and broad trim range.
Consider the 2017 if:
