How much does the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse cost?

Prices have softened 9.74% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,664 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used Traverse options to compare.

Is the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse earns a 4.73/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the Traverse for its spacious interior, comfort, and impressive cargo space, which makes it a strong fit if you want a family vehicle with room to spare. The review summary also highlights the smooth ride, useful rearview camera, and good value for the money. In the overview, it’s positioned as a three-row crossover that blends style, size, power, and value, with especially strong appeal if you want a practical SUV for people and cargo rather than maximum towing.

The market also shows healthy interest, with 30.4% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse reliable?

Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable for family use, with repeated praise for its spaciousness, comfort, and everyday usefulness. The review summary also emphasizes value for money and notes that several drivers are happy with its economy and capability, which supports the idea that it can be a trouble-free choice when maintained well.

From the expert drive, the Traverse comes across as solidly built and refined in daily use, with strong acceleration, a smooth-shifting transmission, and a composed ride. The cost-effectiveness notes also frame it as a sensible buy for shoppers who want a roomy, feature-rich SUV without moving up to a larger, pricier class.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a neglected example could be more expensive to live with if you’re expecting strong towing or heavy-duty use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Chevrolet Traverse?

At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage family hauler. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven tire wear, brake condition, and any evidence that the SUV has been used hard for towing or frequent full-passenger duty. Because this model is often bought for space and family use, condition matters as much as equipment.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Lower trims are fairly basic, while the higher trims add a more upscale cabin and more equipment. The LT is the minimum trim called out as a smart value choice because it broadens color choices, looks nicer inside and out, and unlocks more than just accessory packages and dealer upgrades.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a 3.6-liter V6 with 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic and optional AWD. A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque is offered only in the RS and sends power to the front wheels.
• Safety package: The Traverse includes Rear Seat Reminder and is available with modern driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems, but forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist require the pricier Premier or High Country trims. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also tied to the LT at minimum.
• Infotainment: Chevrolet’s MyLink system includes a 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar services, and Teen Driver technology. Leather-seat versions add an 8-inch display, navigation, and a 10-speaker Bose system, while Premier and High Country add a wireless device charger.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert drive returned 20.6 mpg on its testing loop, better than the EPA’s estimate of 20 mpg.

Which 2018 Chevrolet Traverse trim should I buy?

The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse is offered in 7 trim levels: L, LS, LT with cloth seats, LT with leather seats, RS, Premier, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but the review makes clear that lower trims are fairly basic. It works if your priority is getting into the Traverse at the lowest price, but you’ll give up a lot of the features that make the model appealing.
• LS: A step up from the L, but still aimed at shoppers who mainly want the Traverse’s space and practicality rather than a richer feature set.
• LT with cloth seats: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers. The cost-effectiveness notes specifically point you toward the LT because it looks nicer inside and out, gives you more color choices, and is the minimum trim needed for blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• LT with leather seats: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin and the added equipment that comes with leather seating, including the larger infotainment display and premium audio.
• RS: This is the only trim with the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, so it’s the one to consider if you want that specific powertrain.
• Premier: This is where more of the advanced safety equipment becomes available, including forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist.
• High Country: This is the most fully equipped version, with standard AWD and the most upscale cabin presentation. It suits you if you want the top trim and are willing to pay for it.

For safety-package shoppers, the key note is that the most advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for the Premier and High Country trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Chevrolet Traverse?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,664 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.74% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,206, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse's resale value?

The current average of $15,216 sits slightly below last year's $16,857.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively if they want to move a Traverse quickly. The current trend points to softer demand than a year ago, so condition, mileage, and equipment will matter more when you eventually resell. Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong feature content should hold up better than basic or heavily used ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The Traverse is available with modern driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems, but the most important caveat is that forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist require the pricier Premier or High Country trims. That means you need to shop carefully if safety tech is a priority, because lower trims miss some of the most desirable active-safety features.

It also includes Rear Seat Reminder, which is a useful family-focused feature that can help prevent you from forgetting someone or something in the back seat. The expert review also notes that the Traverse offers more distance between the third row and the rear glass and tailgate than many rivals, which is a meaningful packaging advantage for rear-seat occupants.

Should I buy a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign makes this year larger, more useful, and more efficient than the outgoing Traverse, while also improving its overall appeal as a family-focused three-row SUV.

The bottom line: The 2018 Traverse is the right path if you want the redesigned second-generation model and you value space, comfort, and practical family use. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still find attractive deals in this market, but you should focus on condition and equipment because the best safety tech is concentrated in the higher trims.
