How much does the 2018 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 5.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,832 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

The 2018 X3 is a complete redesign, so you’re looking at a third-generation version that feels fully updated rather than lightly refreshed. Its appeal is strongest if you want a compact luxury crossover with BMW character, a refined cabin, and a strong mix of everyday usefulness and modern tech.

The market shows 35.6% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2018 X3 is described as a thoroughly updated third-generation model, and its expert notes point to a well-executed redesign with strong everyday usability. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is praised for pulling hard at all speeds, and the eight-speed automatic is described as essentially flawless.

BMW also includes three years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, including oil, brake fluid, air filters, and spark plugs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that premium ownership can still bring higher repair and option-related costs if the car wasn’t maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW X3?

At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history or a long option list. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment you want is actually present, since some desirable features were bundled into packages.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is conservative and tasteful, with standard SensaTec vinyl and a panoramic moonroof that helps the X3 feel airy and more like a larger SUV. Higher equipment levels add features such as bi-LED headlights and the 360-degree camera system, so base-level examples may miss some of the more desirable convenience and visibility upgrades.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four is the core engine here, and it’s paired with a smooth eight-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard, and the engine is described as strong, quiet, and free of the vibration you might expect from a small turbo four.
• Safety package: Forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control are available only with the Driving Assistance and Driving Assistance Plus packages. The standard Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning, but it does not include lane centering.
• Infotainment: The X3 includes the latest iDrive interface, touchscreen capability, a 360-degree camera system, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay, in-car Wi-Fi, and a head-up display. The tech suite is a major strength, especially if you value camera visibility and fast navigation response.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2018 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2018 BMW X3 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive30i, xDrive M40i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the trim most shoppers should start with because it delivers the core X3 experience: the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, standard all-wheel drive, the smooth eight-speed automatic, and the upscale cabin and tech that define the model. It’s the best-value choice if you want the X3’s main strengths without paying for the more expensive performance model.
• xDrive M40i: This is the choice if you want the stronger six-cylinder setup and the more aggressive hardware that comes with it, including upgraded brakes and a sport suspension. It suits you best if performance matters more than value.

Safety-package features such as forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control are only available with the Driving Assistance and Driving Assistance Plus packages.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW X3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can find value if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,832 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,373, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $17,902 sits slightly below last year's $18,936.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit softer, which can help you as a buyer today but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to resell soon. The good news is that the X3’s strong brand appeal and broad shopper interest can still support demand when the vehicle is well kept and properly equipped.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 safe?

The 2018 X3 is still too new to have been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, the previous 2017 X3 scored a five-star NHTSA rating and top scores in all IIHS crash and crash-prevention tests, with only a Marginal for headlight performance.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW’s driver-assistance setup includes forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control, but those features are only available with the Driving Assistance and Driving Assistance Plus packages. The standard Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning. The X3 also includes uncommon safety features such as a pre-collision system that can shut the sunroof and windows, tighten the seat belts, disable the battery, apply the brakes, and unlock the doors after a crash.

Should I buy a 2018 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 X3 is a complete redesign, so you’re getting the third-generation version that feels fully new.

The bottom line: If you want the newest-feeling version of this generation and you value the redesign, the 2018 is the right place to start. If you’re mainly chasing the lowest possible price, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but you should still prioritize condition, equipment, and maintenance history over model-year differences.

How does the 2018 BMW X3 compare to the 2018 Audi Q5?

Our experts score the 2018 BMW X3 7.7/10 and the 2018 Audi Q5 7.8/10. The Q5 edges ahead on expert score, but the X3 offers a slightly stronger used-price value and more listings to shop. The BMW also has a higher good-and-great deal share than the Audi in the comparison data, while both have nearly identical accident-free shares.
