How much does the 2018 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 10.53% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,362 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of cars to compare.

Is the 2018 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2018 BMW 5 Series earns a 4.95/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, powerful performance, and luxurious features. For you, that means this model fits especially well if you want a refined midsize luxury sedan with comfort and upscale equipment at the center of the experience.

The market also shows 37.6% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.95/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that many drivers find dependable, with praise centered on comfort, smoothness, and a satisfying ownership experience. The expert review also describes the 530e as planted and solid, and notes that it shifts like a regular car rather than feeling foreign the way some hybrids can.

The cost-effectiveness discussion also highlights that you can get a new 5 Series for less than 50 grand with incentives, which helps reduce ownership strain if you buy wisely. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some owners report engine noise and possible reliability concerns, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW 5 Series?

At 59.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or shows signs of prior bodywork. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s technology and hybrid systems operate as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 530e differs only slightly from the gasoline-powered 5 Series, with eDrive badging, a charging port, ambient lighting, a flush LED gauge cluster, and a reduced trunk and fuel-tank capacity.
• Powertrain: The plug-in hybrid setup pairs a twin-scroll turbo 2.0-liter engine with electric assistance, delivering strong torque, quick acceleration, and up to 72 MPGe when fully charged, plus 29 mpg combined once the battery is depleted.
• Safety package: The car can be equipped with driver-assistance packages that add blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and related features; some of these are optional rather than standard.
• Infotainment: The iDrive system includes eDrive pages, and available equipment can add Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and enhanced connectivity through extra USB and Bluetooth ports.
• Fuel efficiency: The plug-in hybrid setup is rated at 72 MPGe with a charged battery and 29 mpg combined on gasoline alone.

Which 2018 BMW 5 Series trim should I buy?

The 2018 BMW 5 Series is offered in 1 trim level: 530e.

Here's the short version:

The 530e is the clear choice if you want the lowest-priced 5 Series and value efficiency without giving up the car’s smooth, quick character. It’s the best-value trim because it combines strong performance, plug-in hybrid frugality, and a lower starting price than the gasoline alternative.

The safety-package note to keep in mind is that many of the most desirable driver-assistance and convenience features are optional, so you should verify exactly what’s installed on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW 5 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,362 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.53% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,149, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $18,345 sits slightly below last year's $20,505.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. If you plan to sell later, the softer pricing means your future resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

Because the model still draws strong owner satisfaction, well-kept examples should continue to attract interest. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.95/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 BMW 5 Series safe?

The 2018 BMW 5 Series earns a five-star safety rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content also points to the importance of braking performance, noting a 124-foot stopping distance with the optional M Sport Brakes. For you, the main takeaway is that the car has strong crash-test credentials, but some of the most useful safety tech may depend on how the car was optioned.

Should I buy a 2018 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.53% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.95/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 adds the 530e plug-in hybrid, giving you a frugality-focused option that is also the lowest-priced 5 Series.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $16,859, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,345 average.
• It is a thoroughly redesigned midsize luxury sedan with a fresh chassis, new engines, and updated technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better all-around value and the plug-in hybrid option, the 2018 is the stronger pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly alternative and still brings the appeal of the redesigned generation.
