How much does the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

There are 1,528 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is a mixed but appealing choice if you value a more premium-feeling compact SUV and can live with some compromises. Its user rating is 3.5/5, and owners commonly praise the smooth driving experience, premium interior, and decent gas mileage. Many also like its compact size and handling, while the cabin quality and everyday practicality help it fit well if you want a small SUV with a more upscale feel. With 34.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitive price.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan was designed as a compact SUV with a smooth, responsive drive and a good-quality cabin, but its reputation was held back by reliability concerns, especially engine and electrical issues. Owners who like it often describe the driving experience as smooth and the ownership experience as dependable enough for everyday use, with some noting decent gas mileage and a comfortable, premium-feeling interior. If you’re shopping used, long-term ownership risk is worth taking seriously, so condition and maintenance history matter more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan?

At 61.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on the engine, electrical systems, and overall mechanical condition, since those areas matter most for this model. Focus on how the cabin, controls, and drivetrain feel in person, because a clean-looking listing can still hide expensive issues.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,528 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.53% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,132, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $10,132 sits slightly below last year's $11,077.

That price movement suggests the Tiguan has softened in the used market, which can help you buy at a lower entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value may remain sensitive to condition, mileage, and service records. If you keep the vehicle well maintained and avoid accident history, you’ll be in a better position to protect value when it’s time to sell.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.53% compared with last year.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $12,345, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $10,132 average.
• It adds more cargo space and a stronger focus on family practicality.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the better fit if you want the lower purchase price and prefer the Tiguan’s more premium, driver-focused character. If you’re willing to spend more for extra space and a more practical layout, the 2018 is the stronger alternative. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2017 makes sense as long as you verify history and inspect carefully.
