CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Toyota Camry
overall

Summary
With 92 currently listed for sale near Fresno, CA and an average price of $20,245.00, 41.3% of 2017 Toyota Camrys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Camry 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2017 Camry models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Camry stands out because it is the last model year of its generation, arriving after the car had already been updated for 2014 and just before an all-new 2018 Camry was unveiled. That timing gives it a distinctive place in the lineup: it represents the mature version of a long-running family sedan rather than an early or transitional one. The result is a car that had already evolved into a very competent sedan by this point.
What makes the 2017 Toyota Camry appealing is that it was described as giving the upscale Honda Accord a run for its money, which speaks to how well-rounded it had become. Owners also praise its reliability, smooth ride, comfortable interior, good fuel economy, and spacious trunk. At the same time, some drivers wanted better gas mileage and more modern features such as lane assist and built-in navigation, so the car’s strengths are balanced by a few clear limitations.

A lot of people looking at a certain car for the lowest price end up getting the oldest/first year of a cars generation. Thats because its typically the least expensive year of that particular body style they are looking for. As someone whos sold many cars in the last decade I can assure you, that is typically a big mistake. They often have problems that automakers cant know about until thousands of people have driven them for tens of thousands of miles, or more. I wanted the most reliable car possible. Easy, right? Just buy a Toyota... right? No. Ive seen it with Toyota as well. Many times. So I purposely sought the most recent model year of a generation of cars that are widely considered the most reliable ever made. A 2017 Camry (non-hybrid), if treated well, can be counted on being driven for over 1 million miles without an engine rebuild. They are an engineering marvel of our time. The 2.5l 2AR-FE has to be the most bulletproof example of a gasoline engine to ever sit under a hood. The car itself is well designed and is a flawless performer in normal daily driving. The SE/XSEs in particular have a suspension that can take a quickly-turned corner without skipping a beat. The seats are very comfortable over long drives, but supportive when youre in the curves. It has large windows to avoid blind spots and has airbags in every direction. The crash tests show that its extraordinarily safe if the unthinkable occurs. Its simply a brilliant choice of car. And getting back to my first sentences, the 2017 model had it all nailed down after 6 years of getting closer and closer to perfection. Toyota could have gotten away with not redesigning it for several more years. Easily. However, being the most popular car in the United States is a challenge that requires not letting the customers get bored. So I suppose Ill forgive Toyota for not making the car longer. That said, any one of the years of the seventh generation Camry is a great car to own. But this last year is perfection. Its why I have one. Im proud & grateful to be the owner of a 2017 Camry SE. Ill likely drive it until the car or myself dies. Dont ask me which one will kick the bucket first though, because Im 42 and this engineering marvel of the auto world is only 7. Dont pass up a well treated one.

I got a 2017 SE after comparing it with a 2017 LE. The SE I purchased drives very smoothly and handles just as well. The car feels so sturdy yet handles so well. I’m very happy with this purchase!!

2017 Toyota Camry Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2017 Toyota Camry prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 Toyota Camry cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,140 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,165.56 |
| Year-Round High | $15,144.76 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,976 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +1.10% |
Prices are up 1.10% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 2,286 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare. If you find a listing below $14,165.56, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — 4.85/5 owners rate it highly, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, smooth ride, comfortable interior, good fuel economy, and spacious trunk. That lines up well with the overview’s focus on a mature, well-rounded family sedan that had already evolved into a very competent daily driver. Even so, some shoppers still wanted more modern features, so it fits you best if you value comfort and practicality over the latest tech. With 28.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary repeatedly points to reliability, and it also describes the car as a smooth, comfortable, and good-value choice that many drivers trust for everyday use. The expert drive notes reinforce that dependable character by describing it as a competent sedan with strong value and Toyota’s well-earned reputation for reliability. If you want a used sedan you can count on, this one fits that brief well.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Camry?
At 49.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior damage or multiple owners. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect from the trim. If you’re comparing several listings, pay close attention to signs of wear that could affect comfort, electronics, or safety systems.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LE comes with halogen headlights, a reversing camera, remote keyless entry, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and power locks and windows, while higher trims add sportier styling, larger wheels, dual-zone climate control, heated leather-trimmed seating, and a smart key system.
- Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder with 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, while XSE and XLE trims can also be had with a 3.5-liter V6 making 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. Power goes through a 6-speed automatic, and SE and XSE models add paddle shifters.
- Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Forward-collision avoidance and prevention is not included.
- Infotainment: LE and SE trims use a 6.1-inch touchscreen with USB connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free calling, Siri EyesFree, and a standard backup camera. XSE and XLE trims upgrade to a 7-inch touchscreen with connected navigation, voice recognition, SiriusXM All Access, real-time traffic and weather, and a 10-speaker JBL audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is listed at 24 mpg city, 33 highway, 27 combined, and the test vehicle returned 26.4 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2017 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2017 Toyota Camry is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, SE, XSE, and XLE.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LE is the value play, but you give up the larger touchscreen, upgraded audio, and the more upscale comfort and convenience features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SE is the best middle ground if you want a sportier look and feel, plus the same core tech as the LE without jumping all the way to the pricier trims.
- Premium/top trim: The XSE and XLE bring the most desirable upgrades, including the larger 7-inch touchscreen, navigation, JBL audio, and available V6 power.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims are aimed at off-road use, so there’s no daily-driver caution to weigh here.
The safety package is available rather than standard, so check carefully whether a specific listing includes the driver-assistance features you want.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Camry?
This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

What is the 2017 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $15,140 sits slightly above last year's $14,976.
That modest increase suggests the market still sees value in this model year, especially because it sits at the end of a generation and offers a strong mix of comfort and practicality. For a future seller, that kind of steady pricing can help support a more predictable resale path. Strong demand tends to favor well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2017 Toyota Camry earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, earns an overall crash score of Good from the IIHS, and is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. One important caveat is that it does not include forward-collision avoidance and prevention, so you should not assume every listing has the most advanced active-safety tech.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 49.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.10% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 is the last year of this generation, so you get a mature, well-sorted version before the redesign.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $13,939, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,140 average.
- It emphasizes hybrid practicality, space, and a strong safety record.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $17,886, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,140 average.
- It brings bolder styling and a more expressive take on the Camry formula.
The bottom line: If you want the most balanced mix of value, comfort, and proven ownership appeal, the 2017 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 can save you money, while the 2018 makes sense if you want the newer design and are willing to pay more for it.
