What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Camry?

At 48.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with prior damage. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment still works as expected, since the Camry’s value depends heavily on finding a clean, well-kept example.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE comes with halogen headlights, a reversing camera, remote keyless entry, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, woodgrain-style interior trim, and power locks and windows. The SE adds a sporty front-end look, 17-inch alloy graphite-look wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, chrome-tipped exhaust, and a rear spoiler. The XSE adds 18-inch machined alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and Ultrasuede front and rear seats. The XLE adds LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, a smart key system, push-button start, leather-trimmed heated front seats, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder with 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. XSE and XLE trims can also be equipped with an available 3.5-liter V6 that makes 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed automatic is standard, and the SE and XSE add steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Forward-collision avoidance and prevention is not included.
• Infotainment: The LE and SE use a 6.1-inch touchscreen with USB connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free calling with Siri EyesFree, and a standard 4-speaker stereo. The XSE and XLE upgrade to a 7-inch touchscreen with connected navigation, voice recognition, SiriusXM All Access, real-time traffic and weather updates, and a 10-speaker JBL premium audio system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
• Fuel efficiency: The Camry is listed at 24 mpg city, 33 highway, 27 combined.

Which 2017 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?

The 2017 Toyota Camry is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, SE, XSE, and XLE.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused choice if you want the Camry’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You still get the basics that matter most, including the reversing camera, touchscreen, Bluetooth, and a practical cabin layout.
• SE: This is the best-value trim if you want a more engaging look and feel without moving too far up the price ladder. The sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch wheels, and sharper exterior treatment give it more personality than the LE.
• XSE: This is the trim to choose if you want the most balanced mix of style, comfort, and equipment. It adds the larger touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, Ultrasuede seating, and available V6 power, making it the most appealing all-around upgrade.
• XLE: This is the comfort-leaning choice if you want the most upscale feature set. The smart key system, push-button start, heated leather-trimmed front seats, and LED headlights make it the most premium-feeling Camry in the lineup.

The available safety tech includes dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Camry?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,383 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 48.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,166, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Toyota Camry's resale value?

The current average of $14,986 sits slightly above last year's $14,900.

That small increase suggests the Camry has held its value fairly well rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to steady demand and a market that is not being pushed down by rapid depreciation.

The Camry’s broad appeal also helps support resale strength, especially when a used example has a clean history and strong equipment. Buyers tend to respond well to models with a reputation for reliability, comfort, and everyday usefulness.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Toyota Camry safe?

The 2017 Toyota Camry earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating and a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

One important caveat is that it does not include forward-collision avoidance and prevention, so shoppers who want the newest active-safety tech should pay close attention to trim and equipment.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the last year of this generation, with strong value and a well-rounded feature set.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,863, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,986 average.
• It offers a competent, practical, and easy-to-live-with hybrid sedan experience.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $17,825, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,986 average.
• It brings bolder styling and a more expressive take on the Camry formula.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price stability, owner satisfaction, and broad usefulness, the 2017 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 can save you money, while the 2018 makes sense if you want the newer design and are willing to pay more for it.
