Should I buy a 2017 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $23,869, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $26,924 average.
• It adds useful upgrades while keeping the same rugged off-road focus.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the current-year balance of pricing, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your top priority is saving money, the 2016 is the better value path and still delivers the 4Runner’s core strengths.
