Is the 2017 Subaru Legacy a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Subaru Legacy earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to very strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its all-wheel drive, fuel efficiency, and high safety ratings, and they also like the comfortable interior and user-friendly technology. For you, that means this model fits especially well if you want a practical midsize sedan with standard AWD, a strong safety focus, and everyday comfort. With 28.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also a meaningful share of the market worth considering.

Is the 2017 Subaru Legacy reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise centered on all-wheel drive, fuel efficiency, and high safety ratings. That kind of response suggests the car has earned trust over time rather than just making a good first impression. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the model’s appeal and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Subaru Legacy?

At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of past repairs, and whether the car’s comfort and technology features still work as expected.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Subaru Legacy?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

If you find a listing below $12,270, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Subaru Legacy's resale value?

The current average of $13,090 sits slightly below last year's $13,462.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already moved through some of its depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you choose a clean, well-kept example, you may have a better chance of holding value than you would with a car that has accident history or visible wear. Demand should remain supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and practical all-weather appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line:

The 2017 is a strong choice if you want standard all-wheel drive, a safety-first setup, and high owner satisfaction in a midsize sedan. If your priority is getting the best value, this year deserves a close look, especially when you find a clean example priced near the lower end of the market. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years to see whether a lower-priced alternative offers similar equipment and condition.
