Is the 2017 RAM 3500 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 RAM 3500 earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. The truck’s heavy-duty usefulness also fits buyers who want serious capability without giving up a more comfortable cabin. Is the 2017 RAM 3500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights the powerful Cummins diesel and a truck that many drivers feel is dependable for demanding towing and hauling work. The same reviews also point to a comfortable ride and a sense that the truck can be counted on for heavy-duty use over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the truck’s prior use and maintenance history match the demands of its size and workload.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 RAM 3500?

At 63.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership patterns before you get too far into the process. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the truck’s body, frame, and mechanical condition, especially if it was used for towing or other heavy-duty work. Because this is a large, capability-focused truck, condition matters as much as mileage when you’re comparing listings.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 RAM 3500?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 622 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.43% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $34,012, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 RAM 3500's resale value?

The current average of $34,065 sits slightly below last year's $34,913.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the truck has been maintained. Heavy-duty trucks can hold buyer interest when they present well, but the current trend shows you should not assume appreciation from one year to the next.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 RAM 3500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.43% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 RAM 3500 makes the most sense if you want a heavy-duty truck with strong owner approval, a comfortable ride, and a market that still offers some negotiating room. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price alone.
