Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you're shopping used because prices have generally softened. The biggest drops are in the newer and higher-priced years, while a few older years are changing less dramatically. One model year is moving up slightly, showing that not every version is following the same pattern.
The 2016, 2019, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Should I buy a used GMC Sierra 3500HD now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −10.12% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.75%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 30.5% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 31.6%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $73,540.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the newest version, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

This truck was in pristine condition, exactly what I was after in a vehicle. I passed on it because the asking price was pretty much what it was worth new in 2015. I have a hard time paying that kind of money for a 11 year old truck.

Besides the bells and whistles we grabbed this dually because we pull a toy hauler. We went from a sturdy 2500 Dodge Ram to this beauty. We choose the dually 3500 due to the pulling capacity and payload as toy haulers are heavier in front to compensate for the weight that you can put in the back. We have no issues pulling it now and the truck does not squat because the support of the 4 tires. Other friends have regular 3500 and still have issues with the payload and had to put in more money into their vehicle to beef up the suspension when pulling a toy hauler because the payload is less. YOU WONT REGRET BUYING ONE!

Why it stands out
The 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD stands out as a heavy-duty truck that blends serious work capability with a more polished personality than its commercial-grade roots might suggest. In this generation, GMC offered a wide range of cab, bed, and rear-axle configurations, along with trim levels that stretched from a basic work truck to the luxury-focused Denali. That breadth is part of the appeal: buyers could tailor the truck for towing, hauling, off-road use, or a more upscale daily-driving experience without leaving the Sierra 3500HD nameplate.
For 2023, the Sierra 3500HD’s strength was its combination of capability and equipment. The available 6.6-liter V8 made 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, while the 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel delivered 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. Properly equipped, it could haul as much as 7,442 pounds of cargo and tow up to 35,500 pounds. The truck also offered useful features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the base model, trailering assist features on higher trims, and off-road hardware on the AT4. At the top of the lineup, the Denali brought premium leather, a native navigation system, a wireless phone charger, and a Bose premium audio system.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Sierra 3500HD is a large, heavy-duty pickup, so it can be unwieldy in parking lots, and the top trims can be prohibitively expensive. It also faces rivals that can tow more. Even so, for buyers who want a truck with strong towing and hauling ability, a broad trim range, and a more refined feel than many work-focused competitors, the 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD is a compelling choice.
