How much does the 2017 RAM 2500 cost?

Prices have softened 3.84% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,344 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2017 RAM 2500 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 RAM 2500 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the powerful performance, comfortable interior, user-friendly features, reliability, and towing capability. That lines up well with the truck’s role as both a worksite tool and a family hauler, especially if you want something that feels more livable than a bare-bones heavy-duty truck.

You should also weigh the tradeoffs: some owners mention ride quality and steering issues in certain units, so it makes sense to focus on the specific truck’s condition and how it was used. Good and great deals account for 29.7% of the market, so there are still attractive listings if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 RAM 2500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, dependable performance, and a truck that many people feel they can count on for towing and daily use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Ram 2500 is built to handle worksite demands while still serving as a comfortable family hauler, which supports the idea of solid long-term usefulness.

The truck’s practical design and strong capability suggest it can hold up well if it has been maintained properly, but used buyers should still pay close attention to service records and signs of hard use, especially on trucks that have spent their lives towing or working.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 RAM 2500?

At 66.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing, hauling, or off-road duty. Pay close attention to ride quality, steering feel, suspension condition, and any signs of wear that could reflect heavy use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tradesman is the work-focused choice with vinyl bench seats, a basic LCD-screen radio, steel wheels, and plastic bumpers, while the SLT adds a 5-inch touchscreen, cloth seats, chrome bumpers, a sliding rear window, and SiriusXM. Big Horn adds fog lights, a power driver’s seat, a backup camera, and the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen; Laramie adds heated and ventilated front seats plus front and rear parking sensors; Limited brings a unique grille design, full leather interior, remote start, and Ram Box cargo management. The Power Wagon sits between the Laramie and Laramie Longhorn on price and is the most specialized choice if you want off-road hardware.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 5.7-liter V8 with 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, while the available 6.4-liter Hemi V8 makes 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. A 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel is also available, with output depending on transmission choice, and the truck can be paired with a 6-speed automatic or, with the diesel, a 6-speed manual.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front and side-impact airbags, tire pressure monitoring, and electronic stability control. A reversing camera is optional, and front and rear parking sensors are available on some trims.
• Infotainment: Tradesman gets a basic radio with an LCD screen, while SLT, Big Horn, and Power Wagon use a 5-inch color touchscreen. The 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen is standard on Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited, and the system is described as intuitive with hard-button backups. There’s no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto yet.
• Fuel efficiency: In testing, the Power Wagon with the 6.4-liter Hemi returned just under 12 mpg combined.

Which 2017 RAM 2500 trim should I buy?

The 2017 RAM 2500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Tradesman, SLT, Big Horn, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the right pick if you want the most straightforward work truck, with vinyl bench seats, a basic LCD-screen radio, steel wheels, and plastic bumpers. It makes the most sense if you care more about utility than comfort or tech.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a 5-inch touchscreen, cloth seats, chrome bumpers, a sliding rear window, a mini trip computer, and SiriusXM while staying below the more upscale trims.
• Big Horn: Choose this if you want a more family-friendly setup, since it adds fog lights, a power driver’s seat, a backup camera, and the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen.
• Laramie: This is the comfort-focused step up, with heated and ventilated front seats plus front and rear parking sensors, making it a strong choice if you want a more upscale daily driver.
• Laramie Longhorn: This trim is for buyers who want a more premium feel and the standard 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, along with the upscale positioning implied by the lineup.
• Limited: This is the top trim, with a unique grille design, full leather interior, remote start, Ram Box cargo management, and lots of chrome. It’s the most luxurious choice in the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 RAM 2500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,344 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.84% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,323, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 RAM 2500's resale value?

The current average of $30,545 sits slightly below last year's $31,766.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has become a bit easier for buyers to access, which can help keep demand moving if you decide to sell later. A lower entry price today can also broaden the pool of shoppers who can afford a heavy-duty truck with this level of capability.

At the same time, resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how hard the truck was used. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and a clean history should remain more appealing than trucks that show signs of heavy towing or neglect.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 RAM 2500 safe?

The 2017 RAM 2500 earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front and side-impact airbags, tire pressure monitoring, and electronic stability control. A reversing camera is optional, and front and rear parking sensors are available on some trims, which can help with maneuvering a truck this large.

One caveat is that the camera is not standard for this model year, so you may want to prioritize a truck that has it if parking visibility matters to you. The large mirrors with integrated wide-angle mirrors also help, but they take some getting used to.

Should I buy a 2017 RAM 2500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.84% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 Ram 2500 is positioned as a more livable heavy-duty truck, with a broad trim range, strong towing ability, and a comfortable interior that helps it work as both a jobsite tool and a family hauler.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of capability, comfort, and current pricing, the 2017 is a strong place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years for the right combination of condition, equipment, and asking price.
