Is the 2017 Nissan Sentra a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Nissan Sentra earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, and smooth driving experience, and many also like its attractive styling. That makes it a sensible fit if you want a practical compact sedan for commuting and everyday use. With 30.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Nissan Sentra reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback repeatedly describes it as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free for everyday use, with many drivers emphasizing its efficient, low-stress ownership experience. The main caution is that some owners mention CVT-related concerns, so used buyers should think carefully about maintenance history and how the car has been driven. For long-term ownership, that means you should prioritize examples with clear service records and a clean mechanical inspection.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Sentra?

At 51.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you commit. A pre-purchase inspection should be a priority, especially if you want to evaluate the transmission and overall drivability. Focus on condition, maintenance documentation, and signs of prior repair work rather than relying on appearance alone.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Nissan Sentra?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep discounts on every listing.

• Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 958 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.02% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $8,930, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Nissan Sentra's resale value?

The current average of $9,151 sits slightly below last year's $9,635.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. The Sentra’s value-oriented reputation and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, especially among shoppers looking for an efficient commuter car. Still, resale will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Sentra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $8,025, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $9,151 average.
• The 2016 brings a refreshed look and updated cabin features.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, satisfaction, and inventory, the 2017 is the better primary target. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition with solid maintenance records.
