Is the 2017 Nissan Armada a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Nissan Armada earns 4.4/5 from owners and 6.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, spacious interior, luxury features, and smooth ride. The Armada’s use case is especially appealing if you want a large three-row SUV with a more refined, car-like character and long-distance comfort. Good and great deals account for 34.4% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Nissan Armada reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels powerful, spacious, and comfortable, with several comments reinforcing its luxury feel and smooth ride. The expert notes also emphasize the Armada’s comfortable cabin and strong overall livability, which supports the idea that it can be a dependable long-haul family SUV when maintained well. The main ownership risk for used buyers is that you should verify condition carefully, especially because some listings have prior incidents and the infotainment and fuel-economy drawbacks may affect satisfaction over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Armada?

At 57.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you get too far into the process, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, interior wear, and evidence of prior repairs. It also makes sense to test the seats and evaluate the infotainment system closely, since those are the kinds of details that can shape day-to-day ownership satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SV trim brings a strong set of standard equipment, including auto LEDs, dual-zone automatic climate control, front and rear parking sensors, a 13-speaker Bose stereo, heated power seats, navigation, a full-size spare, 18-inch alloys, roof rails, running boards, keyless ignition and entry, a rear-view camera, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The SL adds leather, 20-inch wheels, remote engine start, power for the tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, driver memory functions, auto wipers, and a 360-degree top-down camera. The Platinum adds front-seat ventilation, unique 20-inch wheels, a rear entertainment system with dual 7-inch monitors, power-folding heated mirrors, lane-departure warning and intervention, and more upscale interior trim.
• Powertrain: Every Armada uses a 5.6-liter V8 with a 7-speed automatic transmission, and you can choose rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The engine delivers strong power and a 6.5-second 0-to-60 time, but fuel economy is a weak point, especially with AWD.
• Safety package: The Technology Package adds adaptive cruise, blind-spot monitoring and warning, and forward-collision warning with avoidance braking front and rear. Base SV trims cannot access the secondary safety features, while lane-departure warning and avoidance are limited to the Platinum trim.
• Infotainment: The Armada uses an 8-inch touchscreen, but the system lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The tech setup also includes navigation, and higher trims add a 360-degree camera and rear-seat entertainment.
• Fuel efficiency: The Armada is rated at 16 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive, and AWD drops that to 15 mpg combined, with 13 city and 18 highway.

Which 2017 Nissan Armada trim should I buy?

The 2017 Nissan Armada is offered in 3 trim levels: SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SV: This is the value play if you want the Armada’s core strengths without stretching the budget. You still get a long list of standard equipment, including heated power seats, navigation, parking sensors, a Bose stereo, a rear-view camera, and an 8-inch touchscreen. It’s the trim that best shows how much equipment Nissan packed into the entry point.
• SL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 360-degree camera, leather, remote start, driver memory, auto wipers, and the option to add the Technology Package. If you want the most balanced mix of comfort and useful tech, this is the one to focus on.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the most upscale Armada, with front-seat ventilation, rear-seat entertainment, power-folding heated mirrors, and lane-departure warning and intervention. It’s the luxury-leaning choice, but it makes the most sense if you’ll use the extra comfort and convenience features.

The safety-package trim note is simple: the base SV cannot access the secondary safety features, while the Platinum is the only trim with lane-departure warning and avoidance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Nissan Armada?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 640 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.44% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,449, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Nissan Armada's resale value?

The current average of $14,449 sits slightly below last year's $16,693.

That decline suggests the Armada has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. The current trend points to softer market demand than a year ago, so condition, mileage, and equipment will matter more when you go to resell. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, but buyers will still compare this SUV closely against other large three-row options.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Nissan Armada safe?

The Armada can be outfitted with every safety system you can think of, if you’re willing to venture up the trim-level ladder.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes stability and traction control, full-length curtain airbags, and a rear-view camera. The Technology Package adds adaptive cruise, blind-spot monitoring and warning, and forward-collision warning with avoidance braking front and rear. One important caveat is that the base SV trim cannot access the secondary safety features, and lane-departure warning and avoidance are limited to the Platinum trim.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Armada or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.44% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brought a more car-like feel, a stronger V8, and a much more comfortable cabin.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $15,621, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,449 average.
• It adds extra standard technology and a more upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and the redesigned Armada’s strong comfort and power, the 2017 is the better value. If you’re willing to pay more for added standard tech and a slightly more polished feel, the 2018 is the cleaner upgrade. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2017 is the smarter starting point as long as you verify history and condition carefully.
