Why it stands out
The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport stands out as one of the longest-running and most affordable choices in the subcompact crossover class. By this point in its life, it had already been on sale for several years, and its appeal was less about cutting-edge design than about value, easy drivability, and the practicality of hatchback access, a higher ride height, and available all-wheel drive. It also benefits from the fact that many of its early bugs had been worked out over time, which helps explain why later examples are often viewed as a sensible used buy.
For 2017, the Outlander Sport gained an LE trim between the ES and SE, and the SE was upgraded to the 2.4-liter engine. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also started to show up in higher-spec models at this time. Those updates make this model year more appealing than earlier versions, especially for shoppers who want a little more equipment without moving into a more expensive crossover. At the same time, the Outlander Sport still carried some familiar drawbacks, including cheap interior materials and a weak engine, so its strengths are more about affordability and simplicity than refinement or performance.

FEATURES are pretty much the standard. The car is a GOOD VALUE. This car does not have heated seats. CRV ect. an on a slightly smaller size SUV and thus has a smaller payload capacity; no third row seating.

How much does the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $9,525 |
| Year-Round Low | $9,525 |
| Year-Round High | $10,747 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $10,136 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.03% |
Prices have softened 6.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 276 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the 2017 Outlander Sport’s appeal centers on value, easy drivability, hatchback practicality, a higher ride height, and available all-wheel drive. The model-year updates also make it more appealing than earlier versions if you want a little more equipment without moving up to a pricier crossover. At the same time, it still leans more toward affordability and simplicity than refinement or performance. With 30.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a compelling price.
Is the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview suggests that many early bugs had been worked out by this point in the model’s life, which is a positive sign for used buyers. That said, you should still expect the usual wear-and-tear risks that come with an older, budget-focused crossover, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport?
At 59.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any promising listing. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle has been maintained consistently, since those factors can matter more than mileage alone on a value-oriented used crossover.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport?
This looks like a moderate market where selective buyers can still find value if they shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 276 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.03% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,525, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport's resale value?
The current average of $9,525 sits slightly below last year's $10,136.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help limit how much value you lose if you buy at the right price. For a future seller, the key will be keeping the vehicle in clean condition and documenting maintenance, since buyers in this segment tend to respond well to straightforward value and visible care.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.03% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the right pick if you want a value-focused Outlander Sport with a strong satisfaction signal and you can verify condition carefully. If your priority is the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby older year may be worth a look, but the 2017 is the better all-around choice when you want a balance of affordability, updated equipment, and buyer confidence.
