How much does the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?

Prices have softened 5.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 690 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

Yes — the 4.9/5 user rating points to very strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its elegant design, driving experience, performance, safety, and comfort, which fits a full-size luxury sedan aimed at buyers who want a refined, high-end daily driver. The overview also shows that you’re looking at a flagship model built around advanced technology, a richly appointed cabin, and strong performance, so it makes sense if you want luxury and presence in one package. With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also a decent amount of market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback describes it as a dependable choice, and the praise for its smooth handling and overall refinement supports that impression. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about day-to-day appeal and more about the cost and complexity that can come with a high-end luxury sedan over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with accident records or repeated claims. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, electronics, suspension behavior, and signs of deferred maintenance. Because this is a luxury model with advanced systems, you’ll want to pay close attention to how everything works rather than just how the car looks.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 690 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.31% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $37,939, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?

The current average of $38,118 sits slightly below last year's $40,257.

That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more favorably now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that value retention will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. A clean history and strong presentation matter even more in a luxury sedan where buyers expect a premium experience.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: You should focus on the 2017 if you want a well-liked, well-equipped luxury sedan and you’re willing to shop carefully for condition and history. If your priority is stretching your budget, a different year may offer a lower entry price, but the 2017 remains the better pick when you want the strongest mix of owner satisfaction and current market value.
