How much does the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?

Prices have softened 3.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 693 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

Yes — 4.9/5 is a strong user rating for this model year. Owners consistently praise its elegant design, driving experience, performance, safety, and comfort, which fits a full-size luxury sedan aimed at buyers who want a refined flagship experience. The overview also points to a car that blends advanced technology, rich materials, and high-end convenience features, so it makes the most sense if you want a luxury sedan that feels both opulent and well equipped. With 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback describes it as a dependable choice, and the praise for smooth handling and strong performance suggests a car that leaves many buyers feeling confident in daily use. That said, this is still a complex luxury vehicle, so long-term ownership risk for used buyers is best managed by focusing on maintenance history and overall condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury sedan where repair costs can escalate quickly if hidden issues are present. Focus on overall condition, service records, and signs of deferred maintenance, since those factors matter more than cosmetic appeal on a car like this.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 693 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.72% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,297, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?

The current average of $38,883 sits slightly below last year's $40,385.

That tells you the market has eased, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also mean future resale gains are limited unless you choose a particularly strong example. For a future seller, the key advantage is that well-kept luxury sedans with desirable equipment and clean histories tend to hold buyer interest better than neglected ones. Condition, service documentation, and accident history will matter a lot when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want the updated W222-era S-Class experience and you can be selective about condition, history, and price. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 remains the better pick when you want a well-regarded luxury flagship with strong owner satisfaction and a softer market than a year ago.
