Why it stands out
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class stands out as a compact luxury sedan that blends comfort, performance, price, and snob appeal in a way that has made it Mercedes-Benz’s best-selling model in the U.S. The car’s appeal is rooted in that balanced formula: it offers the kind of polished driving experience and upscale image buyers expect from a German luxury sedan, while remaining accessible enough to attract a broad audience.
For 2017, the C-Class was described as offering more of the same, which is a strength in itself when the formula is already working well. Drivers are drawn to its powerful performance, stylish design, and luxurious features, and many also appreciate its responsiveness and comfort on the road. At the same time, some owners note that maintenance costs can be high, and taller passengers may find the cabin a bit cramped.

This is a great car. It’s got the right engine and specs needed for the C-Class sedan compared to the C300 model.

Reviewed a 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Coupe on Apr 11, 2023
The c63s is one of the best cars Ive ever driven. The steering, throttle response and brakes are all amazing. The suspension is extremely rough, even compared to cars like the F-type. However the driving experience makes the bumpy ride worth it. It has a great interior with a good sized trunk. The back seats are small, but much larger than a LC500. If youre in the market for a fast and fun car definitely pick one up. Its an amazing car with an amazing hand-built V8 that will last. Id definitely take a C63 coupe over a F-type, DB11, Hellcat, M4, M8, Gt350 and almost every car in the segment. (Below the Lc500 though) Overall a great car you should pick up if its in your budget.

The Mercedes Benz C Coupe sets itself aside from its sedan version. In fact, despite having the same nameplate, and badging, it is an entirely different car. Kudos to the sedan, no doubt, but the Coupe just epitomizes the right balance between pure luxury and pure sport. It is pleasant to find how well it does both in equal parts. Beautifully styled inside and out, it offers upgrades as standard that are options with the sedan. Drives enthusiastically, precisely, and comfortably. This model year is where the depreciation has its full effect and is quite affordable. It puts a smile on my face just by gazing at it, let alone what it does when I get behind the wheel.

Yes — the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, stylish design, and luxurious features, and many also like how responsive and comfortable it feels on the road. With 31.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a car that many owners find dependable in daily use, with recurring praise for its comfort and performance over time. The expert review also describes the C-Class as a polished, well-rounded sedan that does many things right, which supports the case for long-term confidence if you choose a well-kept example. Maintenance costs can run high, so your biggest ownership risk is buying one that has been neglected or poorly serviced.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
At 55.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had any prior damage or shows signs of deferred maintenance. Pay close attention to how the cabin, electronics, and driving controls function, since luxury features are a big part of the ownership experience. It’s also smart to focus on service records and overall condition, because repair costs can climb quickly if the car has been neglected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin emphasizes traditional luxury, high-tech touches, and a sporty feel, while the cheaper CLA is called out as the model that can feel less premium. The Luxury package swaps in a thinner upright chrome grille and hood ornament, so you should check whether the car has the appearance and equipment level you want.
- Powertrain: The main setup is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed automatic and available rear- or 4Matic all-wheel drive. The review notes that the turbo four is slower than the previous V6 and that fuel economy is not especially impressive.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can compensate for crosswinds, forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, and an attention monitor. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: A 7-inch central screen is standard with Bluetooth, HD Radio, and two USB ports. The 8.4-inch screen adds navigation, map updates, SiriusXM traffic and weather data, voice recognition, and an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The review cites 23 mpg in mixed real-world driving for the tested car, while EPA figures include 24 mpg city and 31 highway for the 4Matic model and 34 highway for rear-wheel-drive versions.
Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class trim should I buy?
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered in 1 trim level: C300.
Here's the short version:
The C300 is the trim to focus on because it’s the core version you’ll see most often, and it delivers the model’s main strengths: a turbocharged four-cylinder, available 4Matic all-wheel drive, and the balanced luxury-and-performance character that defines this C-Class. If you want the best value, look for a well-equipped example that has the features you care about without piling on expensive options. The safety package is strong, with standard forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, and an attention monitor.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,851 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.91% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,332.22, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?
The current average of $17,708 sits slightly below last year's $18,820.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the current trend means resale upside may be more limited unless you own a particularly clean, well-optioned example. Strong condition and a solid service history matter more when the broader market is already pricing the model below last year’s level.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class safe?
The 2017 C-Class has a five-star rating from NHTSA and Top Safety Pick+ recognition from IIHS.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Mercedes includes rear side thorax-level airbags as standard, along with stability control that can help counter crosswinds and apply individual brakes to keep the car on course. Standard driver assistance also includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, and an attention monitor. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.91% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- More of the same is the theme for this year, and that works well because the C-Class formula already blends comfort, performance, price, and snob appeal effectively.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value and the classic C-Class formula, the 2017 model is the one to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for a clean, well-maintained example and prioritize history and condition over options, because the market still includes enough inventory to reward selective buyers.
