How much does the 2017 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 2.87% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,928 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, smooth ride, and excellent reliability, and many also like its comfortable handling and fuel economy. The overview frames it as a sporty, upscale compact crossover, so it fits you best if you want a practical commuter that still feels engaging and a little more premium than the average SUV.

33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to excellent reliability, and it also describes the CX-5 as dependable and trouble-free for many drivers. The expert driving notes reinforce that it feels like a well-sorted family-oriented crossover, with strong acceleration and cornering that support confident everyday use. The available maintenance perk in the cost-effectiveness notes adds a little extra ownership value if you shop the right package.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core mechanical character and more about finding a well-kept example with complete service history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

At 58.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim example with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the features you want are actually present and working as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, power side mirrors, a reversing camera, keyless entry, push-button start, dual USB ports, MazdaConnect infotainment, and Bluetooth hands-free calling. Touring adds leatherette seating, auto-leveling headlights, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, rear USB ports, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, rear climate control vents, and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry. Grand Touring adds 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a power moonroof, a power rear liftgate, full leather seating, an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, navigation, auto-dimming mirrors, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 10-speaker Bose premium stereo.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. Fuel economy is rated at 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 27 combined for FWD models, or 23 city, 30 highway, and 26 combined for AWD versions.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The automatic emergency braking-equipped version is the one recognized as a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.
• Infotainment: MazdaConnect uses a 7-inch screen controlled by a rotary dial, with touch capability when the vehicle is in Park. It does not offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
• Fuel efficiency: The CX-5 is rated at 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 27 combined with front-wheel drive, or 23 city, 30 highway, and 26 combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2017 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value starting point if you want the CX-5’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get key convenience and safety basics, but it’s the trim where you’ll feel the biggest feature gap versus the higher versions.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience upgrades that make daily driving easier, including heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, rear USB ports, and leatherette seating.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the most upscale CX-5 experience, with leather seating, a power moonroof, a power liftgate, navigation, and the Bose audio system.

The Touring trim is the sweet spot if you want the best balance of price and features, while the Grand Touring is the one to target if you want the most premium feel. Safety equipment steps up by trim, with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert on Touring and adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking on Grand Touring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,928 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.87% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,192, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $15,904 sits slightly below last year's $16,373.

That softer pricing can work in your favor if you buy now, because you’re entering at a lower baseline than last year’s market. For a future seller, it also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim, since the market has already adjusted downward. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher, lower-spec listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The CX-5 has been named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety when equipped with automatic emergency braking.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The Top Safety Pick+ recognition applies to the version with automatic emergency braking, so that feature set matters if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2017 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It delivers a sporty, upscale feel with strong driving dynamics and a more premium personality than many compact crossovers.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,798, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,904 average.
• It pushes further toward a more premium feel while keeping the CX-5’s engaging character.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2017 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and the model still brings strong owner satisfaction and a distinctive upscale personality. If you’re willing to spend more for the next model year’s refinements, the 2018 is the better secondary path.
