Used 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque for Sale near Illinois

Land Rover has a crossover that’ll pamper you on the commute and, on the weekend, take you and the family to that remote camping spot. The compact 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque was designed with fuel efficiency, affordability, and comfort in mind. And, for better or worse, it keeps that Range Rover look.

Introduced for the 2012 model year as a downsized 5-door, 5-passenger crossover assembled in the U.K. by Jaguar subsidiary Land Rover, the Evoque is one result of Rover’s 2008 LRX concept vehicle and reflects the British manufacturer’s commitment to better fuel efficiency, increased environmental awareness, and affordability, not to mention its acknowledgement of modern sensibilities and a bolstered bottom line. In 2013, the 3-door Evoque Coupe debuted, and 2017 sees the introduction of the unique Evoque Convertible trim. Should this debuting drop-top version prove popular, it’ll doubtless get the attention of rival automakers

The 5-door 2017 Evoque comes in 5 trim levels: the SE, SE Premium, HSE, HSE Dynamic, and Autobiography. The Coupe variant is offered only in the SE Premium trim level for 2017, while the Convertible is available in the newly created SE Dynamic and in the HSE Dynamic version. The various trims reflect not only a choice of personal preference, but a significant difference in the amount of available cargo space; the 5-door offers 51 cubic feet of toting acreage with the rear seats folded, while the Coupe boasts 47.6 cubic feet. The Evoque Convertible, sporting a power-operated soft-top roof that has to be stowed somewhere, carries a mere 8.8 cubic feet of luggage space behind the non-folding rear seats.

The coming year sees several other changes and upgrades for the Evoque, including a 10.2-inch touchscreen integrated with Land Rover’s next-generation InControl infotainment suite, which is now faster, features a “pinch ‘n’ zoom” display, and carries enhanced smartphone apps that will lock and unlock the doors, start the engine, and adjust the dual-zone automatic climate control. There are also two new options packages: the Ember Limited Edition package and the Graphite Design package, both of which feature unique exterior styling cues. Four new exterior colors, Aruba, Farallon Black, Carpathian Gray, and Silicon Silver, make for a total of 18 available color choices for 2017.

Each trim level comes with standard leather upholstery as well as front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, and a Meridian premium sound system. The HSE version carries a standard fixed sunroof, and the HSE Dynamic trim level offers adaptive suspension damping to smooth out the ride.

Noteworthy options available to the 2017 Evoque include rear-seat DVD entertainment and a Black Design package that features 20-inch alloy wheels with gloss-black inserts, darkened headlights and fog lights, and gloss-black exterior trim pieces.

A turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) powerplant is standard for the 2017 Range Rover Evoque lineup and mates with a 9-speed shiftable automatic transmission to put out 240 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. All trims come with standard full-time all-wheel drive (AWD) featuring an electronically controlled center coupling that automatically transfers torque from the front to the rear wheels as needed. Look for an estimated 21 mpg city/30 highway/24 combined and a 0-60 mph time of 7.2 seconds (a little slower than the class average).

The Evoque also carries a gas-saving Eco mode, while Land Rover’s Terrain Response system, with selectable General, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud and Ruts, and Sand settings (displayed and selected via the dashboard-mounted driver information screen), is also standard across the lineup. But be advised that although the Evoque is touted as off-road-ready, it’s not designed for water hazards or rock climbing.

Besides antilock braking (ABS), stability control, and traction control, the 2017 Range Rover Evoque is delivered with standard front side-mounted airbags and head curtain airbags all the way around in the 5-Door and Coupe versions, while the Convertible offers head-protection chambers as part of the front side-mounted airbag system. The drop-top also comes equipped with pop-up roll bars that deploy when the stability control system senses a rollover situation. InControl emergency telematics are also standard aboard all trims, as is a post-collision safety system and a remote antitheft alarm. The SE Premium and higher trim levels come with standard high-intensity-discharge (HID) headlights, while the HSE trim level is delivered with automatic high/low-beam headlights. The flagship Evoque Autobiography is equipped with a standard head-up windshield display. Optional safety features include a 360-degree parking camera system and a blind-spot monitor that’ll help out with the vehicle's poor rear sightlines.

An entry-level Range Rover Evoque SE with no extras shows an MSRP of $41,800, while an Autobiography with no options will run you $62,500. And look for the Evoque to challenge BMW’s X3, Audi’s Q5, Mercedes-Benz’s GLC-Class, and Lexus’ NX 200t in the luxury crossover niche.
