Used 2017 Land Rover Discovery for Sale near New York

How much does the 2017 Land Rover Discovery cost?

Prices have softened 16.51% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 267 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

The Discovery is positioned as a luxury SUV that gives you sedan-like handling, real off-road ability, and more cargo room than a crossover. It also comes across as well equipped for the money, with a panoramic glass roof and wood-and-leather trim, while the unibody construction and lightweight aluminum components help support its balance of comfort and capability.

The market also shows 37.1% good or great deals, which suggests you have room to shop carefully and still find a competitive listing.

Is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Discovery’s overall package points to solid everyday usability, with a roomy cabin, strong capability, and a design that aims to be both upscale and practical. The expert evaluation also notes that Land Rover’s reliability track record has improved, which helps the case for this model year.

Its performance notes also support that impression: the diesel engine is described as quiet, torquey, and helpful off road, while the vehicle’s engineering is built around a lighter, stiffer unibody structure. On the cost side, the warranty is 4 years or 50,000 miles, so long-term ownership risk still depends on how well the previous owner maintained it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Land Rover Discovery?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with added equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of heavy use, and whether the vehicle has the features you want, since many desirable items were optional or trim-dependent.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base setup already includes wood trim, leather seats, and a panoramic glass roof, while higher trims add more luxury and convenience equipment. The HSE and HSE Luxury are the trims that bring more of the upscale features buyers usually want.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 340-horsepower supercharged gasoline V6 and an optional 254-horsepower diesel. The gas engine is quicker, while the diesel is the efficiency play at 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.
• Safety package: Blind-spot detection, automatic parking assist, a driver condition monitor, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control are available, but they are optional rather than standard.
• Infotainment: The system uses Land Rover’s own interface, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available. InControl TouchPro adds select app support plus remote monitoring and service reminders.
• Fuel efficiency: The gasoline engine returns 16 mpg city and 21 mpg highway, while the diesel is rated at 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Which 2017 Land Rover Discovery trim should I buy?

The 2017 Land Rover Discovery is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, HSE, HSE Luxury.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it can still be a smart buy if you want the Discovery’s core space-and-capability formula without stretching too far. It’s the trim most likely to need careful option checking, since seven-passenger seating and the Capability Package are commonly added.
• HSE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the equipment that makes the Discovery feel more complete, including LED headlights, parking assist, navigation, 20-inch wheels, and an upgraded sound system. It also opens the door to the diesel engine and blind-spot detection.
• HSE Luxury: Choose this if you want the most upscale version, with standard electronic air suspension, three-zone climate control, and a 14-speaker sound system. It’s the right pick if comfort and premium features matter more than keeping the purchase price down.

As a safety note, the active driver-assistance features are still optional, so you should verify exactly which systems are installed on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Land Rover Discovery?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 267 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.51% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,182, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery's resale value?

The current average of $14,182 sits slightly below last year's $16,987.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you’re thinking about future resale. For a seller, the key is to present a clean history, strong condition, and desirable equipment, because those factors matter more when the broader market is softening.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery safe?

The 2017 Land Rover Discovery has not been rated by either NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with front, side, and curtain airbags that also deploy in a rollover crash. Buyers can add blind-spot detection, automatic parking assist, a driver condition monitor, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control, but those features are not standard and are tied to higher trims or options.

Should I buy a 2017 Land Rover Discovery or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 model year marks the return of the Discovery nameplate to the U.S. and pairs luxury with real off-road ability.

The bottom line: If you want the Discovery’s first U.S. model year of this generation, the 2017 is the one to target, especially if you value its mix of room, luxury, and capability. If you’re more price-sensitive, shop carefully for a well-equipped example with the options you want, since many desirable features were not standard.
