How much does the 2017 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 8.98% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,282 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Kia Sorento earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 9.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise the smooth ride, stylish interior, comfort, and available V6 power. The overview also points to a well-rounded midsize crossover that balances style, practicality, and driving refinement, which makes it appealing if you want an SUV that feels more upscale than basic family transportation.

There are 31.0% good and great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to reliability-minded strengths such as a smooth ride, comfort, and a generally well-liked ownership experience, while the overview describes the Sorento as a well-rounded SUV that avoids feeling compromised in the areas that matter most. The expert review adds that Kia engineered it to exceed demanding warranty coverage requirements, which reinforces the sense of durability and confidence.

The main used-buyer risk is that some owners reported occasional engine issues, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on body condition, repair quality, and signs of prior damage. Because some owners mentioned occasional engine issues, it is smart to prioritize a thorough mechanical check as well. If you need the third row, make sure it works for your passengers, since owners often describe it as cramped and not very accessible.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes L, LX, EX, SX, and SX Limited trim levels. The base L is the most stripped-down version, and the safety content notes that several driver-assistance features are not available on it.
• Powertrain: You can get a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, or a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6. The V6 is the strongest choice, and the review notes it can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
• Safety package: Automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning are available for all trim levels except the basic L. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the LX V6, and the 360-degree surround-view camera is exclusive to the SX Limited.
• Infotainment: Kia’s UVO system is available for most versions and supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri, Pandora, Yelp, and connected services. The review also notes that the screen could be larger and more modern.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 with all-wheel drive is expected to get 19 mpg in combined driving, and the review says the test vehicle averaged 19.4 mpg on its loop.

Which 2017 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Sorento is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LX, EX, SX, and SX Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but it is the least appealing choice if you want the Sorento’s broader safety and convenience story, since several driver-assistance features are not available here.
• LX: This is the most sensible starting point if you want a lower-cost Sorento with access to more equipment, and it is the trim where the V6 can be added.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and sits in the sweet spot between price and equipment.
• SX: This trim brings the 290-horsepower V6 standard, making it the better pick if you want stronger performance without jumping all the way to the top model.
• SX Limited: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with the most upscale presentation and the 360-degree surround-view camera system.

Safety-package note: automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning are available on every trim except the basic L.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,282 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,947, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $10,947 sits slightly below last year's $12,027.

That decline suggests the Sorento has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, it also means you may need to price competitively if you want to move the vehicle quickly. The good news is that the model’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and well-rounded reputation can help support buyer interest over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2017 Kia Sorento earns Top Safety Pick+ status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star crash test rating from the federal government.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Automatic emergency braking is newly available for 2017, and Kia also offers adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Those systems are available on all trim levels except the basic L, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the LX V6 and the 360-degree surround-view camera is reserved for the SX Limited.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds newly available automatic emergency braking and earns Top Safety Pick+ status.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,856, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,947 average.
• It feels more upscale and refined than a typical family hauler.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, safety, and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the stronger all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is worth a look, especially if you find one in strong condition.
