Is the 2017 Kia Optima a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Kia Optima earns a 4.4/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Is the 2017 Kia Optima reliable?

The owner feedback also points to a car that many drivers find reliable, dependable, and comfortable to live with over time, especially when it comes to everyday use and fuel economy. Some owners do mention oil consumption and maintenance concerns, so used buyers should pay close attention to service history and ongoing upkeep to reduce long-term ownership risk.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Optima?

At 50.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on bodywork quality, signs of prior collision repair, and overall mechanical condition. Because some owners mention oil consumption and maintenance issues, service records matter just as much as cosmetic condition.

What is the 2017 Kia Optima's resale value?

The current average of $9,569 sits slightly below last year's $10,232.

That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also suggests resale upside may be more measured than in a rising market. If you plan to sell later, condition and maintenance history will matter more because buyers will compare your car against a large pool of similarly priced listings. Strong value retention will depend on keeping the car clean, documented, and mechanically sound.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Optima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 50.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.48% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,368, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $9,569 average.
• The 2016 stands out for its redesigned styling, safety, and infotainment.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, satisfaction, and inventory. If your priority is saving a bit more upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one with strong condition and documentation.
