Used 2017 Kia Niro for Sale near Connecticut

How much does the 2017 Kia Niro cost?

Prices have softened 2.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 118 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Kia Niro a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Kia Niro earns a 4/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.

The Niro is aimed at you if you want a hybrid that emphasizes comfort and practicality instead of feeling like a stripped-down efficiency appliance. Its comfortable interior, spacious rear seat, and crossover-like styling help it stand apart, while the hybrid setup is tuned to deliver strong efficiency without making the car feel awkward in everyday driving.

The market shows 33.9% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Kia Niro reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Niro’s overall package points to a car that should feel easy to live with, thanks to its comfortable cabin, well-placed controls, and smooth hybrid operation. Its powertrain is described as keeping the gas engine and electric motor from feeling like dueling systems, and the brake feel is called more predictable and smooth than on other hybrids.

Kia’s Uvo system can also tell you when scheduled maintenance is due and help you set up an appointment, which adds a useful ownership convenience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a neglected hybrid system or high-mileage wear could erode the easygoing character that makes this model appealing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Niro?

At 65.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the hybrid system and brakes feel consistent on a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The entry-level FE and midrange LX and EX trims aren’t as lavishly appointed, while Touring trim adds leather seats and a more upscale feel. The base trim also misses some of the convenience and safety equipment that appears higher up the range.
• Powertrain: The Niro pairs a 104-hp 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a 43-hp electric motor and a 1.56kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, working through a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The setup is tuned for brisk initial response and smooth transitions between gas and electric power.
• Safety package: Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the EX and Touring, but not available on the FE or LX. Automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and smart cruise control are optional on the LX, EX, and Touring, but not available at all on the FE.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with a 7-inch touchscreen and Uvo telematics. Touring trim adds an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and a premium 8-speaker sound system with subwoofer.
• Fuel efficiency: Kia’s estimate of up to 50 mpg combined is a key draw, and the model is positioned as a fuel-efficient compact crossover.

Which 2017 Kia Niro trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Niro is offered in 4 trim levels: FE, LX, EX, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• FE: This is the simplest way into the Niro, but it still gives you standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen, and Uvo telematics. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra convenience and safety features found higher up.
• LX: This trim adds pushbutton start with a smart key, which makes daily use easier without pushing you into the pricier upper trims. It’s the best-value choice if you want a better ownership experience without paying for features you may not need.
• EX: This is the trim to target if you want a more complete safety and comfort package, since it adds heated front seats and outside mirrors and brings blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert. It’s the sweet spot for many shoppers who want more equipment without going all the way to Touring.
• Touring: This is the most upscale version, with leather seats, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation, and a premium 8-speaker sound system with subwoofer. Choose it if you want the most comfort and tech the Niro offers.

Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the EX and Touring, but not available on the FE or LX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Niro?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 118 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,063, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Niro's resale value?

The current average of $10,705 sits slightly below last year's $10,943.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you shop carefully now, you may have a better chance of limiting your own depreciation hit later.

The Niro’s appeal as a comfortable, efficient hybrid crossover should help keep it relevant with budget-minded shoppers. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Niro safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Niro’s safety equipment is uneven across the lineup. Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the EX and Touring, but not available on the FE or LX, and automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and smart cruise control are only optional on LX, EX, and Touring.

That means you should pay close attention to trim choice if safety tech matters to you. The biggest caveat is that the FE misses out on the most important active safety features entirely, so a higher trim is the smarter buy if you want more driver assistance.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Niro or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 model year stands out for its comfortable interior, spacious rear seat, and up to 50 mpg combined estimate.

The bottom line: If you want the lowest-cost path into a comfortable, efficient Niro, the 2017 is worth a look. If you’re shopping mainly on features and want more standard safety and convenience equipment, a newer model year may be the better path; if price matters most, the 2017 gives you a softer entry point and a decent amount of inventory to compare.
