You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Pay close attention to overall condition and maintenance records, since those details matter more when you are sorting through a mixed inventory.

What is the 2017 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $11,752 sits slightly below last year's $12,462.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned to limit losses when it is time to sell. Strong shopper interest can still support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $10,290, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $11,752 average.
• It offers impressive capability at a reasonable price.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping target, the 2017 is the stronger primary choice because it combines a lower current price trend with solid owner satisfaction and a broad set of listings. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in strong condition and can live with the older model-year tradeoff.
